A Laughing Stock

So I guess if you don't make the short list for recieving a community A+ award from the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce, the next best thing is to get mentioned by radio personality Monte Belmonte during his -- mostly funny -- monologue.

Although I have a feeling Amherst Select Board members probably did not laugh.

(Just wait until next year.)

So I have to ask, who is Belmonte (beyond what is stated), and why was he speaking at UMass? I'm not saying he doesn't have a point.

The awards banquet was held at UMass Student Union Ballroom and they were probably a co-sponsor.

The Chamber gave former UMass Chancellor Holub an award.

So happy to provide entertainment for the University who provide us with regular entertainment from their students on the weekends while we are trying to get some sleep

Dr. Ed also had a design for the Amherst flag. It was a red background with a yellow hammer and hand scythe....

While the Amherst Selectboard liked Dr. Ed's design, the Copyright Office argued that it was a public domain image and refused to license it to Amherst for use as a trademark.
