As a country we should celebrate. Without the revolution and independence from GB, slavery would have ended 30-60+ years sooner. Folks in the South got to work so much less and folks in the North got to buy the cheap slave made goods, which were greatly appreciated, reducing work for them too. It works just like the iPhone where users perpetuate low wages, harsh working conditions, but they don't have to see it so they can deny it.

As a town, Amherst should not celebrate, as the citizens often pine for GB policies of massive government involvement in every decision. The revolution delayed the desired reduction in rights, liberties and all the permits that could have been required decades or centuries earlier.

Larry, you do know that celebration is actually in Hadley.....

I do.

Have you noticed- Amherst's holiday flags are looking a bit worn and faded!

Larry Kelley said...

Yes, they are 14 years old. But one or two look brand new. And of course the BIG flag looks brand new (because it does not fly all that often).

And the flags that fly all the time along Rte 47 in Sunderland are a disgrace - they should be respectfully retired (and might serve as a lesson to those who want to fly them in Amherst a bit too often)!

Define "A bit too often."
