10:00 pm (still early). Nahhh, nothing major. A lot of police waiting for something bad to happen can get bored and gravitate towards the least little thing. Next two weekends, they will be more than busy enough...
If you look for trouble, eventually you will find it.
If the Amherst police turned OFF the blue lights, parked the cruisers, and tried making friends with the evil UMass students, they might find that (a) students are human beings too, (b) politically the students are in agreement with the cops on most everything, including disliking the town govt, and (c) over time, it would make being an Amherst cop both easier and safer.
If we can send US Marines into Iraq and tell them to respect cultural issues and to not provoke stuff, then why can't the APD do the same thing? It isn't like UM students are rigging IEDs....
