Recovering

AFD Ladder 1 pouring water on Southpoint Building #97

Town Manager John Musante told the Select Board this evening that through a coordinated effort of the town, Red Cross and a variety of social service agencies, all the tenants displaced by the Southpoint Apartment fire last week have found housing either elsewhere in the Southpoint complex or in other off site housing.

Building #97 will require extensive repairs from the direct damage of fire and indirect water and smoke damage.  Two of the other three buildings were habitable on Friday.

You probably would not think so if you lived there.

Or had ever suffered the consequences of a major structure fire.

They still need clothes, furniture, food and household items

"They still need clothes, furniture, food and household items"

Is there a list? Where is the collection site?

A victim is someone who is hurt injured or killed. A person who is displaced is someone that losses their home to a fire. These people were not victims. They were displaced.

Well said. It's like saying an elderly person who was scammed out of their life's savings is not a victim. They were just, what, too trusting? No.

No. They are a victim.

The definition of a victim is a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action.

As any news organization would properly say, a person who loses their home to a fire is displaced.

Just saying that the town clerk is not using the term correctly.

You ought to see if there is a special place we can donate to.

I would say that all of the people who were "displaced" by this accidental fire suffered some form or harm and or injury. This obviously did not take the physical form, however they certainly have been harmed financially and possibly injured emotionally. So anon @ 4:05, using your definition they are in fact victims. That said, this all seems like semantics to me.
