2nd Time's The Charm?

Former location 25 South Pleasant Street town center

Scandihoovians, a Northampton men's and woman's jewelry store, will make another attempt at carving out a successful niche in the vibrant -- but some would argue expensive -- downtown Amherst commercial district.

This time they are going to occupy the only commercial space in the sparkling new Boltwood Place five-story mixed use building with a great view, sandwiched between the Boldwood Parking Garage and Judie's Restaurant. The dozen luxury apartments are already fully occupied.

Scandihoovians briefly occupied the space next to Bank of America owned by artist and author Rich Michelson, who consolidated his Amherst gallery into the Northampton location five years ago.

Last summer Silverscape Designs, an iconic Amherst jewelry store also consolidated by closing its longtime Amherst operation and merging with their downtown Northampton location.

New location coming soon to Amherst's coolest new downtown building

Good luck to them. While they dropped out of the expensive and poorly situated storefront in town on a strip that is slowly vacating completely, they never lost their web presence. Since the town makes doing any business other than selling food difficult hopefully they will find a better outlet for their trinkets.

I actually heard the rent is a lot cheaper as well. So that will help.

Walter, could you detail the gradual demise of that strip for those of us who are unfamiliar with it?

Walter, anons on this blog often comment that they are amazed that so many people who detest this town decide to live here. You seem to be in the camp of those who think Amherst is a "cesspool"; could you tell us why you choose to live here?

This is an honest request.

It seems at this point three or four store fronts are empty. That was my reference to the strip seeming empty. I think the French place is currently being done over. Book store still empty, and a few others. Its not a real traffic block as Amherst goes so seems to me to be a tougher sell.

Where have you been? Larry loves this town. Seriously.

There are many, many posts on this blog over the years that prove it.

It is possible to love a community and detest the hypocrisy in it. There's nothing inconsistent in that at all. Try the United States of America, for example.

No, it moved up the street and reopened many months ago.

If that comment is indicative of your powers of observation, Walter, how much credence do you expect anyone to give your other "fact-based" comments? Are you trying to usurp Ed's position as the undisputed champion of blowhard know-it-alls?

Ed and Walter - the know-it-all blowhard twins! What a pair! When I see their names on a post I automatically think to myself - "Well, what follows won't have an ounce of truth to it, will be meaner and nastier than all get-out but will definitely be entertaining!"

If you could only be more ignorant. I was referring to the space, not the tenant. That strip in town has a number of vacant stores now. My reference to the French place was the storefront. I know the restaurant moved moron. Learn to read and understand content before you attack. Your attakcs only show your fear that someone will challenge this horse ass town.

I've said nothing on this site that isn't true (including the thread on how gun violence never decreased after the gun control act of 1968 to which I posted the study that showed just that after you said Iw as talking out of my ass), and the rest is my opinion. Such as my opinion that people who hide behind anonymous names are cowards. Have some balls and stop hiding cause the only person who has no credence is one that cant identify who they are.

Hey Moron Walter - if you wrote more clearly people would not be misunderstanding what you are trying to say. I also thought you were saying that the French restaurant was being renovated. You could have said, the space that once housed the French place is being renovated. Then us morons would have no trouble what you were trying to say.

We can read the English language perfectly fine - but if it's not written clearly than all of our fine reading will do us no good.

Hope that makes sense to you, you moron, Walter.

What is moving into the old location? And in the old spot that was a spinning gym briefly?

Actually, the strip of stores on the common has both a sandwich shop and a Chinese restaurant coming in.

Well, now, Walter, you said that the strip is "slowly vacating completely"... not that there has been changeover in tenancy, or that there are currently a few empty spaces being renovated.

Tell us about how the strip is slowly vacating completely...
