Up in smoke

Not much going on at the Extravaganja rally around noon today on the Town Common. But with the rain and early hour (for avid pot smokers anyway) not a big surprise.

UPDATE: 5:30 PM Obviously things have picked up.

2 years ago. Obviously nobody checks I.D.s

The Umass Collegian reports (they were the only ones who seemed to care)

Wow! CBS TV paid a visit

I hope there's never an occasion for your daughters to be captured in youthful indiscretion by someone like yourself, who can't resist republishing the image over and over for seemingly little gain or purpose.

Well if I have anything to say about it they will not engage in "youthful indiscretion"--ESPECIALLY in a public way.

The operative word there is "if". We all have lots to say as parents. Unfortunately there's a condition that sets in around adolescence called selective listening. Here's hoping your kids (and by association you and your wife) don't suffer from it.

Yeah, let's hope.

But I still would not attack the messenger if he/she brought it to my attention--even if on a public blog.

Larry, you're an ass.

Coming from a Cowardly Anon Nitwit like yourself...I don't give a damn.

Would you say the same thing about the bare-chested drunken girl waving her bra around over her head during a Southwest riot?

And if not, why not?

Damn! I'm sorry I missed that one.

larry, i am sure the parents of those kids would not appreciate your indiscretion of posting that pic. once, maybe, but several times is just beyond good taste.

or the kids for that matter...they appear to be minors.

Even if there were an expectation of privacy when smoking marijuana during a celebration of marijuana, (which of course there is not) at an event that everyone attending knows will be covered by the media, the journalistic integrity exercised in showing the public that young people are involved in the movement to legalize the "drug" far outweighs the imagined embarrassment that the use of this photo carries. And really... do those kids look like they care about being seen? Richard.

About ten or 12 years ago a guy was getting evicted from his Amherst Housing Authority apartment because he was an advocate of medical use of pot. Lease bylaws for public housing banned such things.

He had a severe neurological disorder and could barely function even with a wheelchair.

The pot helped steady his uncontrollable hand shakes, so he could at least function a little bit.

His eviction got a lot of press (I did a column on it in the Bulletin) and Ch 22 TV showed up.

So he actually smokes a joint on camera in his apartment while the cameras were rolling.

But I noticed since his hands were trembling so badly and he needed both just to hold the joint, another hand (smaller with rings so I assumed female)enters the frame with a lighter.

I of course called the cub reporter to ask if she actually participated (staged). Her stunned initial silence, and then "no comment" response told me it was so.

Hey what do you want for local TV journalism?

So at least I did not provide the flame (or pot for that matter) to those little darlings two years ago.

This is typical Larry. If there's nothing to report now then just dredge up an old photo. Don't bother lecturing him as he's impervious to learning.
