 Snell Street Bridge yesterday

Busy Snell Street reopened to normal traffic yesterday, after being closed since August 13 during business hours Monday through Friday for the Snell Street (bike path) Bridge replacement.

According to Victoria Sheehan, DOT program manager, "The project is on schedule with an anticipated completion date of October 12, 2012. The bridge is being raised from 10’-1” to 11’-1” (12 inches).

Alas, not widened however.

As an avid cyclist I'm glad this has been done.....and hopefully it is a positive pre-cursor to the long awaited rail trail reconstruction.

In regards to widening this bridge, it would definitely have been a larger undertaking to modify one or both abutments. I'm actually OK with its current width; it calms traffic with drivers having to slow down and be cautious. With the vet clinic, residential homes, grade, sharp turn, and a bike trail connector near the road such calming is a good thing.

Wonder why the signs all say 10' 6"?

The original yellow signs (shown in some earlier posts photos) show 9'-6," so that 10' 6" is still a one foot increase, same as the difference in her statement 10'-1" to 11'-1".

But if you are driving a 10' 10" truck, you may want to hold your breath.

Hmm...
