"The horrer...the horrer!"

Sorry madam Chair it really, really is about how "horrible 9/11 was." And that, precisely, is all it's about!

You say, "Only in Amherst" would this be an issue. But I wonder what other towns/cities routinely fly commemorative flags on 9/11. Is it only an issue in Amherst because you choose to make it one, or do flags indeed fly on that date in other communities? Personally, I've never noticed them elsewhere.

Most communities that actually have commemorative flags fly them on 9/11. It's pretty simple to put them up for Labor Day and just leave them up until 9/12.

And I can't think of a single community across the entire country that has turned down a citizen request to fly them on 9/11

I never thought about the fact that the flags are up on Labor Day and how easy it would be to just leave them up until 9/11 each year. 99% of the time I DO NOT agree with you Larry - but this is one time that I do agree.

Let's leave the flags up each year until 9/11! I dont' get what the issue is. Why can't they just stay up?

Part of me thinks the issue is that you are the one requesting them to fly on 9/11 each year. If it was anyone else the SB would have allowed flag flying on 9/11 long ago.

Princess Stephanie even said that at the 9/2 SB meeting: that it was pretty much my fault for being a polarizing figure.

The flags went up early this morning and the DPW folks who put them up were making time-and-a-half or maybe even double time pay.

So yeah, it would pretty efficient to simply leave them up for 9/11.

That was a really stupid statement on Stephanie's part to basically blame Larry for the controversy. They should just leave them up. The select board really has nothing better to spend their time on that nit picking how many times the flag is flown??? Are you kidding me????

I am sure that the town of Amherst could get veteran volunteers to donate their time to honor/hang the flags, instead of pissing out the time and half over payed employees to put them up. OR hey Larry, how about contacting some vet orgs. and asking for volunteers to group on the town common on 9/11 and invite the press?
Amherst= most F###ed up town in USA
