Scary Saturday

Townehouse Apartments East Quad 4:30 PM Saturday
Townehouse Quad Sunday morning

In addition to dealing with the usual large exuberant crowd gathered at Townhouse Apartments quad area, drunk drivers, noise complaints and fist fights Amherst police and Massachusetts State Police also investigated a hatchet assault on South East Street that required AFD transport to Baystate critical care unit in Springfield.

Very large police presence on S. East Street since 1:00 AM

Chief Livingstone confirms an arrest was made (Patrick Bemben) and that eerily similar to the shooting death two weeks ago at Southpoint Apartments this was not a random act of violence, so the neighborhood need net be concerned about their security.

DA statement (Click to enlarge/read)
The rented house seemed to be specifically targeted by the four perps who were dressed in all black, used walkie talkies to communicate with one another and were armed with a hatchet and knife.

Police spent hours looking for the other attackers using the MSP Air Wing and a K9 unit.  AFD also  used one of their thermal imaging cameras to search the wooded area.

  1. This is what happens when law enforcement worries about loud parties instead of home invasions.

It's been how many days since the Southpoint murder and STILL neither an arrest nor named suspect?

This is where I start saying Amherst's Police are led by, and have the priorities that the town deserves.

And as to this not being random, that home invasion in Athol wasn't random either, the schmucks wanted their particular car.

  4. Larry, many thanks for posting this as this is 200yds from my house in a very quiet south Amherst neighborhood. Keith said, The scary thing about that home invasion is there were four guys dressed in black with walkie-talkies, probably coordinating their movements. I trust the Town understands now that we have a major issue given this and last weeks murder. Again many ithanks for you bringing town issues to public attention.....Best, Dave

  7. You can always tell Ed's posts. They are always uninformed.

  8. "I trust the Town understands now that we have a major issue given this and last weeks murder."

The town is far more concerned with harassing UM students for being loud, drunk, & obnoxious.

  11. USA TODAY:

It's that time of year when celebrities apologize for their offensive Halloween costumes.

So, who's immediately regretting her choice of holiday wear this year? That would be Hilary Duff, who attended the Casamigos Halloween Party Friday in Beverly Hills. The Younger and Lizzie Maguire star went out with her boyfriend, trainer Jason Walsh, dressed as a pilgrim and a Native American.

  13. You wonder downtown wether it's the drunk pedestrian students illegally jaywalking and cartwheeling over your hood by Antonious or the plastered ones bashing up police cruisers-that are more potentially lethal ??!!

  14. APD and AFD are working extremely hard to keep our community safe - regardless of whether is it these horrible acts of violence or the unruly behavior of college students who compromise our community when they drink in excess. Much appreciation and respect to Amherst fire and police. Thank you all !

  15. Do we know if the residents of the home are UMass students?

  16. I always love how the residents out here act like they hate the college kids while at the same time this town would be nothing without them. Can't have the benefits of a large college in your town without the downsides. Why not worry more about the homeless bum population roaming around drunk downtown asking everyone for money?

  17. The Pilgrim constituency must not be offended. Violators will be shunned.

“I haven’t lost my temper in 40 years; but, Pilgrim, you caused a lot of trouble this morning; might have got somebody killed; and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won’t. I won’t. The hell I won’t!” – McLintock (1963)
