219 East Pleasant Street
Considering how nice the weather was on Saturday, and the fact that booze first started flowing at the UMass football tailgate at 9:00 Saturday morning, I'm surprised there were not a few more Party Houses for me to illuminate.
But the fewer the better as far as I'm concerned -- and they are becoming far fewer over the past year or two.
Although with the Patriots now 10-0 the town and UMass should already be planning for a Superbowl eruption should the Patriots win it ... or lose.

Patel and Parikh both accepted the standard plea deal offered by the state: pay one of the $300 tickets and stay out of trouble for the next 4 months. Charges were dropped before arraignment for Bahnam because his name was not on the lease
The hard to miss little yellow house at 219 East Pleasant Street, just barely outside town center, is certainly a frequent flyer when it comes to attracting a police response.
The town's Noise and Nuisance bylaws do allow for fining the landlord $300 after the 3rd offense, but to date the town has not done that.
Which one of the cool party dudes drives a minivan ?
ReplyDeleteLarry, after posting pictures of all the tenants, you really ought to take your drone and go get a picture of the slumlord's home, if not him.
ReplyDeleteLarry, if you were to take your drone and go get pictures of the various slumlords own personal homes, that would likely be quite effective.
ReplyDeleteThis property has had HOW MANY *DIFFERENT* groups of problematic tenants?
And if it is owned by the same guy it used to be -- well how might I know of it (and of him)?
Do it.
I know this sort of story drives page-views, but it's not so great for property values. Google a street address and Larry's story comes up - who wants to buy a house there? And I haven't seen many stories on this blog that a "notorious party house" has become a good neighbor. Doesn't make headlines I guess. Actually maybe it never happens. But it makes our town and neighborhoods look worse than they are, if the party houses remain identified perpetually in the ether.
ReplyDeleteIf you were about to buy that house (and since it's probably a cash cow it will not be up for sale anytime soon) wouldn't you want to know its history?
ReplyDeleteAbove and beyond that Larry, you'd want to somehow let the police know that you have bought it and that it is YOU who is living there now, not yet another group of problematic student renters.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never did thank the nice lady at the DPW who told me what the volume of water would have been -- both in cubic feet and gallons -- had his Section 8 tenants (mother & two daughters) actually been using the dollar amount of water that he was trying to convince me that they were using.
Let me just say that it was the equivalent of someone trying to claim that they got a scale reading of 50 tons on a Toyota Corolla. That doesn't pass the "straight face test" -- you kinda KNOW that there is no way in hell that a Toyota Corolla is actually moving with a GVW of 100,000 lbs....
Happy Thanksgiving to all you party people.
