Party house of the weekend

FACEBOOK UPDATE: April 12, 2011 (click here)

So my source material is getting slimmer and slimmer. Not a bad thing of course, since our our highly-trained police officers have better things to do than to act as babysitters. This past weekend officers issued only a few (three locations) $300 tickets for violating the Amherst noise bylaw and not a single one for a "nuisance house."

But a little one bedroom house, #23 Tracy Circle, gets the prize because it generated 4 tickets ($1,200 total) and it is getting close to my neighborhood. I figure if Mother Mary Streeter can cash in her political capital and use the power of the Web for NIMBY self interest, so can I.

When I start seeing the Section 8 rentals showing up on Larry's List, then I will believe in the competence of the Amherst Police....

Until then, I believe them to be little more than bullies who only pick on those who won't make much of a fuss. Go after the drugs in Larry's neighborhood if you really have professional cops in town....

Oh, I don't know about that...some of the party house winners so far this semester had hundreds of drunk revelers crammed into a small space who did not much want to stop partying and did indeed put up a "fuss".

Larry, for all the cop buddies you claim to have, go talk to one or two of them. Ask but two questions: Would you rather arrest a UM student or the boyfriend of a Section 8 tenant -- does your blood pressure jump higher when called for backup to Hobart or to New Hollister?

Cops don't mind getting hurt -- it comes with the job and while they would prefer not, it is like football and it happens. By contrast, they don't want to get killed. And the reason why they go after UM students and ignore the Latin Kings, MS-13, La Familia and other gangbangers is because they have wives & children to go home to.

So, Larry, when you start reporting about the Great South Amherst Drug Bust, then I will have respect for the APD. Or when one of these drunken spoilt brats from jersey "pops a cap" which will happen eventually...

If any if those so called students are getting state or federal aid, it should be canceled. No respect for neighbors or the law = no $$$ handouts.
