So three years ago in one fell swoop almost 100 of the 250 'No More Overrides' signs disappeared over night.
One of the nitwit teen-aged perps dropped his cell phone and a pack of cigarettes next to the mangled metal stakes and Amherst PD tracked him down. He made good on court ordered restitution--although he never gave up his band of accomplices--and the signs were replaced.
This past weekend the only sign on display in the entire town was stolen. Since I live next to the DPW I figured with winter weather the sand/salt pile garners a lot of traffic. And yes it was very, very secure--nailed into a wooden stockade fence with four large nails. Next time I'll booby trap it with C-4.

The vipers resorted to using children to do their dirty work?
LOL
Scum-bags.
maybe we should call out the national guard
ReplyDeleteNah, APD handled it pretty darn well the last time.
ReplyDeleteyawn......................
ReplyDeleteNot much going on.
ReplyDeleteLarry, you do know that if you were a UMass Student, your posting (the reference to C-4) would subject you to the ACT team and you likely would be considered a person likely to be a threat to the campus and likely expelled from school.
ReplyDeleteWe both know what you meant.
But the next time you want to complain about UMass Students, remember that had you been a UM student and written that, you likely would be either sent to the 5th Floor of CDH and bullied into withdrawing from UMass and/or just expelled and committed.
This, Larry, is reality.
Actually I AM a Umass student (online journalism)
ReplyDeleteDamn, this could be fun. I need some material for my Umass blog anyway.
Larry, Gazette article about A-ROD...
ReplyDelete3:48, that is the one of the stupidest things Ive read here.
ReplyDeleteThe competition for "the stupidest thing I've read here" is a fierce one.
ReplyDeleteI think its funny how you complain about all this waste going in in the town government. Have you ever considered how much time, energy and dollars you waste by your bickering, requests, etc?
ReplyDeleteActually I did it online to save them time and be more efficient.
ReplyDeleteLarry,
ReplyDeleteAmherst fire fighters have been promised wage increases similar to those Larry Shaffer promised police officers under the Quinn bill.
By which mechanism would the fire fighters recieve their increases? Quinn bill funding? Or some other program?
Thanks
There is no "Quinn Bill" for firefighters. So it would be just plain old town tax dollars.
ReplyDeleteThe Quinn Bill used to be a 50/50 match with state funds. Now I think it's around 90% town money, only 10% state.
Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Larry: not to change the subject but I would have thought that by now all the people who made the rude comments about the school superintendent would have apologized and wished him well. It looks to me like he has done everything by the book and deserves to be acknowledged for it. or am I missing something that justifies the treatment (some just by innuendo) he got on your blog? I was surprised that you didn't cover the most recent news on this topic to update everybody.
ReplyDelete"How about tweaking the current system a bit. Since it takes a 3 out of 5 vote of the Select Board to hire or fire a Town Manager, why not have a Referendum vote of the people, say, every two years. And if 60% say fire him/her, then we start looking for a new Town Manager. Would also be a good idea for School Super as well."
ReplyDeleteThe time is now.
What news Jeff? He did not do "everything by the book." In fact, that should have been part of the news.
ReplyDeleteDid he fill out the Family Medical Leave Act paperwork before going AWOL? No.
It's required if a school employee is taking 3 or more "sick" days in advance. And he took all of last week with no notice whatsoever.
Now he's simply redirecting by blaming anonymous bloggers for calling him on his Boss Hogg mentality.
My definition of a blogger is someone who has a blog. You don't. So Professor Jeff, you are not a blogger.
I do, but everybody knows who the hell I am. So I am not a "anonymous blogger."

ReplyDeleteRegarding your comments:
My definition of a blogger is someone who has a blog. You don't. So Professor Jeff, you are not a blogger.
I do, but everybody knows who the hell I am. So I am not a "anonymous blogger."
All I can respond with is "Huh??" I don't recall calling myself a blogger, but I suppose I could have had a senior moment. And I don't recall calling you an "anonymous blogger."
... but thanks for your comments and for providing your perspective on the situation.
When in doubt Larry always changes the subject.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm still working on that post to completely address Professor Jeff's concerns.
ReplyDeleteNeed to do video editing and so forth. But stay tuned...coming soon.
Larry -
ReplyDeleteI'm still wondering what your explanation is for your response to my comments about the superintendent. In your response, you said:
"My definition of a blogger is someone who has a blog. You don't. So Professor Jeff, you are not a blogger.
I do, but everybody knows who the hell I am. So I am not a "anonymous blogger."
Since I didn't mention either of these things, I am still at a loss concerning what your point was. Anonymous 10:38 suggested that it was just to change the subject. Why comment about me not being a blogger and why defend yourself for not being an anonymous blogger? I didn't mention either of those things, and actually, I completely agree with you, oddly enough ( that is, that I am not a blogger --obvious enough -- I don't blog and don't particularly like most blogs; and you not being an anonymous blogger--- correct -- you do a lot of things on your blog but it is not anonymously). So, I remained puzzled.
You sure complain a lot about taxes, Larry. What is going on with you?

I feel for you.
Guess it was just one of the "senior moments" there Jeff.
ReplyDeleteYours, not mine. Good that we have found some common ground to agree on.
ReplyDeleteYep!
ReplyDeleteOf course by now you are reading my most recent upload, upon which we will find little common ground.
Hey cubby,
ReplyDeleteNoticed a new sign at your place. We're taking bets on the day it will be borrowed.
I say it's gone by tomorrow morning.
Thoughts?
-LarryLoser
Time will tell (I still have 398 more anyway.)
ReplyDeleteI'm home now and plan to be for the rest of the night. So if someone wants to try, feel free.
Ron Lashway would love the business.
in response to Jeff B. "ok, we are sorry for any illness that AROD is suffering, including his "Superintendent Ref: on his new job "Resume" with (at) Amherst tax payers expense. Do you really think he is here for the long run???? His family lives in Florida, and refuses to move to MASS. Amherst will no doubt be facing another Superintendent search for 2011 year at out expense! Why can't Amherst find a Super that wants to stay around for more than 6-12 months???????
ReplyDeletegood luck at the voting booths!
Do away with the "boards of Amherst" get an elected "governor" in the spot, who is responsible and accountable for all decisions for the town. period.
