And the winner is...

(8:50 AM) Unidentified Pilot: “Anybody know what that smoke is in lower Manhattan?”

Yeah, I know many weeks back I predicted a McCain victory on Mary Carey’s About Amherst blog but a week later kind of wanted to take it back. Not that I changed my mind about voting for him, only that a majority of Americans would not follow suit.

But now with the bewitching hour fast approaching I will go on record on my own blog about who will tomorrow’s epic contest. McCain.

Not that Obama made any major screw-ups over the last month (that I was anticipating) although a few smaller gaffs BUT one big one from his running mate. By saying that President Obama “would be tested” in his first few months in office by folks who want us all dead Biden returned the focus to the one issue that makes all the difference in the world to me: the safety of my family.

And yeah I do think race, unfortunately, will play a role. In the privacy of the voting booth you can do things you don’t confess to for any reason at all, even a bad one. But I think safety is the crucial deciding factor --and that’s a good one.

I agree, McCain will win, for 2 reasons:

1. a lot of white voters won't vote for a black man for office.
2. Obama is untested in war, and whether we like it or not, this is a wartime. We need someone in charge who has military experience. We need a war hero.

We're not voting for POW-in-chief guys, we're voting for a leader to direct the ship of state. John McCain can't do it b/c he's not smart enough, and his policies have been tried for the last eight years, and they suck.

I won't make a prediction, that's for pollsters.

Keep voting for the past, it's over if you want it to be.

Earth to Larry,

Wishful thinking. Obama in a solid electoral victory. All those polls don't lie. People aren't as racist as you think. Just ask all the people that make Oprah the most popular TV personality.

P.S. You are watching too much Fox News. They are making this seem closer than it is.

Well. perhaps they're already in line to vote? Or just asleep.

"McCain's Crowd Disturbingly Small, Ten Times Less Than Planned For"

Something was missing from the first of John McCain's seven campaign stops today: the crowd.

Kicking off the last day of the election in Tampa, Florida, John McCain was welcomed by a roughly 1,000 voters. Compare that to the 15,000 people that President Bush drew to a rally in Tampa on the eve of the 2004 election. "What's up with that?" wrote Adam Smith at the St. Petersburg Times.

Even Fox News had a bit of difficulty spinning the whole thing. Carl Cameron, who is following the Senator at every stop on Monday, said the crowd size was likely "a little bit disturbing" for the McCain campaign. He added that organizers had set up the venue predicting ten times the number of attendees.

I predict the following:

President - Barack Obama
Select Board - Aaron Hayden
Question 1 - No
Question 2 - yes
Question 3 - no
Question 4 - yes (sadly)
Question 5 & 6 - Who cares!

Another good reason for Anon's to identify themselves: If you are right all the Anon's will take credit. If wrong, they will all say "wasn't me"

I agree let the anonymous, ID themselves. Their comment on all matters need to have a name with them. Is everbody who makes comments going to hide in the background.

people leave anonymous comments precisely because they don't want to be identified and later slandered or attacked in person.

Larry's topics are controversial. He's a lightning rod for a lot of nastiness, founded or not. Kooks and internet trolls luckily have not found this blog yet.

Amherst College gives $40K from film to town.

40 Large. Has Shaffer announced what priority the town will spend it on?

McCain's camp is worried that he won't carry Arizona. Stick a fork in 'em.

... If all the newly registered and periodic voters VOTE,

... and none of the Republican voter suppression tactics in battleground states are effective,

THEN Obama will take 310 electoral votes, 40 over 270, to become the 44th President of the United States. God save the Republic from the politics of personal destruction.
