All politics is local

Yeah, that’s our antiquated almost-extinct Amherst Town Meeting, with over half the members already having one foot in the grave. The illustrious Select Board moved back the start date from November 5 to November 10 because they figured everybody would be soooooo tired from campaigning on November 4 and watching the election results that they would need a reprieve.

Of course if McCain wins, about half of Town Meeting will succumb to heart attacks thus making it hard to get a quorum.

It is their job to deal with these elections, no matter what, and bing tired is no excuse. Who the hell hired the people who work in town hall, and what does election have to do with Sb? Are they counting votes or something? What a town.

The Select Board, unfortunately, is in charge. They set the start of Town Meeting and can add questions to the ballot with simply a majority vote.

And even if Town Meeting should approve a Prop 2.5 Override it is the Select Board who approves it for the ballot (or not).

Yeah, what a great system of government we have here in the People's Republic.

As Mr. Obama would say: Time for a change!

Thanks, Larry. I am begnning to learn a lot about this form of town government that we have in Amherst. Yes, it is time for change. I think we should bring up the mayoral issue, again, and save time, money and morals in this Republic of Amherst.

Until later.....................
