End of story

UPDATE: 5:00 PM. So I'm still waiting to get video of the actual Select Board meeting (that I'm told started 10 minutes late because of the festivities) but Mary Carey uploaded video of the 5:30 reception for the outgoing X-Czar. Loved the verybrief snippet of her blaming "blogs" for her downfall. If you look in the mirror one morning and see a wart or juicy zit, don't blame the mirror.

Check out Ms. Carey's video (although it's kind of a delayed lead to get to them) Take note of Rob Kusner saying "I was recruited a year after she was elected to join her on the Select board..."

(original post: early this morning) Yeah, the Gazette sent a photographer to a Select board meeting for the first time in ages, and since they could not get any bang-bang they settled for huggy huggy. Of course the ironic thing is the photo shows long time (although recently mute) activist Alan Root giving Awad a goodbye hug.

Some of you may remember Mr. Root composed a “toxic” personal email to then Select board member Dolly Jolly who—as a result—decided not to seek reelection in 2004, calling the episode “creepy”. And paving the way for Awad pawn, His Lordship Gerry Weiss.

Naturally the speeches were about Amherst becoming more civil--in other words, shut Larry Kelley up. Okay fine I can take a hint. That’s it! I’m moving to South Hadley. They're in line for $2 million in state money for a wading pool and they have a much BIGGER municipal golf course.

  2. Nah, she--I mean they--live in an expensive part of town.

I need a Dave Keenan kind of chalet.

  3. was that our tax dollars spent on that reception?

however much that cost, they should have given it to ME instead, for my unpaid work on academy square for the 250th.

  4. Actually, who did pay for the event? If it was public funds (including in-kind use of town space, remember how the Boy Scouts can't do that without paying) then it arguably is a campaign event and there may be election law issues...

Larry is a registered Republican if I am not mistaken. Ellen Story is a Democrat. As, I suspect, are Awad, Wiess & the Town Mangler.

And were town employees expected to show up for this?

I wonder if the state ethics commission would have anything to say about this event? Or is the Town duty-bound to let Larry use the Town Room (and all the same resources) for a "Glad She is Gone" party?

Lots of people didn't think it at the time, but the Springfield Housing Authority mess started out with a similar spark, also involving a state rep....

  6. I think the Select Board has a little slush fund for these kinds of things. After all, every year one or two has a fair chance of leaving via those uncivil voters who get pissed off about this issue or that.

Take for instance her hubby, Robie Hubley, who lost by more than 2-1 (although I don’t remember him getting a going away party with cake.)

  7. Stephanie O'Keefe said, "I'm absolutely in awe of your willingness to do this for so long." Do what? Control the town?..maybe we can finally get our heads out of our asses and get someone who can help us, and not consider that what they feel,

is not necessarily the way that we feel.

Was she not the one that wanted the walk light buzzers changed as not to remind her of a Nazzi concentration camp? From buzzer to tweety.

  8. Well, I think Stephanie is showing her polite rookieness. “Do this for so long”??? In Amherst 8 years of “public service” is like bragging about a Bachelor’s degree in town oversaturated with PhD’s.

And, like Weiss, she had no prior experience on any Boards or Committees prior to winning the Select Board seat riding that Pot wave in 2000.

Since it doesn't cost the town anything extra (as the are all electronic anyway) I don't have a problem with this. If they have to make noise, less noise is better. (Isn't noise a common complaint about UM students???)
