An Extensive List

So you know that private meeting held on public property between high-ranking UMass bureaucrats, town officials and a few landlords that I complained to the Attorney General about for barring my presence?

Well guess how many local landlords were invited?

2,500 -- give or take.

And since only 11 showed up that's a response rate of .0044%.  Reminds me of  the voter turnout for the local election Amherst just held.

The only landlord I was curious about was Stephan Gharabegian, King of the Decadent street (Phillips Street).  Strikes me as kind of inept that he was not even invited.

As he is the Poster Boy for Bad Boy landlords.

NOMP-Not on my property

Landlords aren't interested in any blame or in any problems that they consider to be an issue with the University and not them.

The fact that few are interested in talking shows that few really care and it will have to be the University's job though creating an off campus task force to deal with it's students and enforcing student codes of conduct that will make this work better than it does now.

Just an fyi Larry. I own a rental property in town and did not receive an invite. I did however, register my property with the Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative. I wonder how accurate that 2500 number is???

Larry, *I* am on that list, along with several UM administrators (David Vallincourt, Thea Costine, etc) and what appears to be a misspelling of Debbie Amos' name -- she Jean Kim's Office Manager.

Read through the list, notice how it is sorted by first name, my guess is that they stripped it off some list of public comments on something ("ED" is me -- I always wrote it that way).

This is bulls**t, they are playing games with you, and I wonder what the AG's office will have to say about this one.

They got too cute by half. And then some....

Let me see if I get this straight -- they don't know if other persons might have been there but didn't sign in, but it was a closed super-secret meeting where they were careful not to let outsiders in.

Does this sound logical?

And go down the list of names -- Harry Seymour (Charlena's husband), Harry Rockland Miller (head of CCPH), wives of cops, etc, etc -- it is a really interesting list of names.

This is bogus. But then these are people who lie for a living. They make lawyers look honorable...

Ever since a few more recent personnel changes at the University, it now operates under the super secret squirrel method of disseminating information. You can always tell what it is most embarrassed about by how secret the decoder ring is for a subject or an event.

Before you go too far into conspriacy theories, I can vouch for the accuracy of those invites. The following was sent to the entire UMass Off-Campus Landlords list (I'm not even a landlord, I just signed up once to help out a friend).

Spring Greetings. You are receiving this message because when you registered on the UMass Off Campus Housing and Community Resources website (www.umocss.org) you indicated you were a property owner, manager, or agent. If you no longer own, rent, or manage property in the area or use the website resources, simply reply to this message and ask that we delete your account. Best wishes. Thea

Spring Strategy Meeting
Thursday, April 4, 1:00-2:30 p.m.
UMass Police Department, 585 East Pleasant St.

The university is hosting a meeting of relevant campus departments, the Amherst Police and Fire Departments, town officials, and area property managers and landlords to plan and coordinate our efforts in preparation for the upcoming busy weekends. You’ll recall we met together last year around this time and the discussion was quite helpful.

You (or a representative) are invited to participate in the meeting. Information will be shared about anticipated events on and off campus, efforts to help manage student behavior, and on campus programming. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions. We hope you can make it.

Thank you,
Lisa

So why was "Dr. ED" invited??

Anonymous said...

I know now -- they included the list of people who attended an event I helped sponsor with the Housing Court some years back, and that is where my name came from.

But that was held in a room that only holds 100 people -- it by no means includes all the people on this list. And yes, I am thinking conspiracy theory here.

They are scared about the public body impact of what they have done -- but ONLY a town meeting is exempt, and what they are doing here in inviting a LOT of people but not *everyone* is creating a really big public body that is going to create a lot of problems for a lot of private citizens. (Including possibly even me...)

Everyone remember to send their "Thank You" notes (and possibly lawyer's bills) to Jean, Enku & Eddie...

So, Ed... still a conspiracy... just a very different one than you imagined at first...

I'm here to inform you, Ed, that this meeting is done and over for those who attended, each has moved onto other aspects of their lives and jobs. These are people who do not require a blog to let them know which issues and topics they will be addressing on any given day.

Good luck with your 237th make-believe lawsuit, Ed.

So, Ed, you didn't supply your last name when you "attended an event I helped sponsor with the Housing Court some years back"?

Do you go simply as ED in your every day, face to face life?

I only ask because I think it is so funny that you think this is somehow about you and related to you.

You know, like... Cher... Sting... Maddonna...

...ED.

So by the sounds of it the town failed on this venture to find a solution. 2,500 invitations, and only .0044 percent show...

...you make fun of the universities ways to attempt to combat drinking (because those "getting tough" noise violations are working so well, right?) yet the town has offered no actual solutions.

Larry Kelley said...

Try paying attention It was UMass who came up with this meeting, not the town (they just went along for the ride.)

juggernaut is here to seek blame as well...

juggernaut, they didn't have the meeting to come up with any "actual solutions", they got together to strategize for the upcoming weekends, like they did last year.

juggernaut, how can you come up with any numbers when we are certain that the list was sent to many who no longer ought to be on the list? you're gonna include those in the percentage who didn't show?

you don't know what went on at the meeting, you don't even get why they had it, so you can't say whether it was a failure or not.

i know that's hard for blame-seekers like you...

Dr. Ed wasn't invited, nor was his ego. I know who ED is and he did get an invite. There are other Eds in Amherst you know.
