Party House(s) of the weekend

872 North Pleasant Street, Amherst

These rowdy kids were lucky APD did not also issue them each a $300 "nuisance house" ticket on top of the $300 noise violation tickets issued very early Saturday morning (1:30 AM).

According to Amherst Police Department narrative:

RP reports a large party, bottles being thrown

Excessive loud party with approximately 300+ guests on property. Upon arrival guests were observed kicking bottles into the street. All four residents placed under arrest for TBL noise. One under arrest for minor in possession. Two ETOH (passed out drunk) parties one male, one female transported by Amherst Fire Department to Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Now I know this house is located smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood, because it is about five houses away from where I grew up on High Street.

According to APD narrative:

Loud music, noise and voices were emanating from listed location. Residents were not cooperative and did not clear out the party as officers told them. Three males taken into custody.

A weekend without bottles being thrown at cops is like a weekend without moonshine.

Street is now more than 80% students.

This blog also passes judgement based on one-sided arguments, and refuses to acknowledge that police often abuse the privileges the town gives them.

You live in one of the largest college towns in America... expect some student activity.

Thanks, Larry.

While I don't always leave comments, I anticipate your Monday morning Party House of the Weekend posts. Eventually the quality of life in Amherst will improve, and you're playing a key role in driving that progress.

HI, my name is Silas Ray-Burns, I live in this house. First, there were probably twenty friends at this so called rager. Second, this was the first "get together" we have had, which concludes that this cannot be a party house as you so have called it. Third, I didnt attend this party, I came home to it at 2:00am only to be arrested within five minutes of my arrival. The police didnt care that I hadnt been there, that I had turned the music down and contacted the neighbors. No instead they arrested us and called my house mates girlfriend a slut for no reason. There was no justice in court either, except for a security guard who told me "I hear ya man". So who ever is making these posts, our community houses are not pokemon cards. If you want peace and quiet move away from the NUMBER 1 COLLEGE TOWN IN AMERICA.

also larry, why do you put peoples home addresses on your blog? this is completely disrespectful. You seem like a judgemental person who has the intention of defaming others. havent you ever been in trouble? couldnt you grow up?

HI, my name is Brattleboro Police. First, let me state for the record that Silas Ray-Burns was arrested for driving under the influence this past summer.

http://brattleboropolicepress.blogspot.com/2011/08/dui.html

Second, any adult that refers to Pokemon Cards in an online argument is of questionable intellectual authority.

Third, a 23 year-old undergrad who cites Amherst as the "NUMBER 1 COLLEGE TOWN IN AMERICA" as an unremorseful excuse to disturb their neighbors probably has nothing else in their sad life to derive self-esteem from. (C'mon seriously, Amherst isn't even #1 college town in Massachusetts.)

Fourth, I love Larry's Blog.

Hello Larry, I have been browsing your blog for the past week or so and I must say that I find many aspects quite offensive.

Although your cause of making Amherst a better community for both local residents and college students alike is a noble one, many of your tactics are obscene and childish.
In your quest to deal with so called "problem houses" you find it acceptable to Post sensitive information such as the name, home address, age and photographs of the properties in question. This is an unjust affront to the college students accused but not convicted of essentially harmless crimes such as noise violations.

In America you are innocent until proven guilty for a reason. To avoid hastily drawn unjust conclusions based on a lack of information. Yet when vigal aunties such as yourself take matters into their own hands, the sacred ideals and civil liberties that make this country great are unceremoniously kicked to the curb.

Furthermore it baffles me that a group of mature adults living in one of the most progressive areas of the country. Can justify standing behind a community cause that deploys a mixed bag of grade school gossip and cyber terrorism to achieve its goal.

Lastly I would like to say that noting in this world is black and white and there are two sides to every story. Just like some might see you as a caped crusader saving Amherst and protecting the community from loud noise one blog post at a time. There are others who see you as a cyber terrorist employed the system contributing to the unjust abuse of power by law enforcement.

God Bless America,
You make this country great

Well if you have been reading me for a week now you probably should have posted your comment on a more recent "Party House" post.

But I'm sure I will have a fresh one tomorrow, posted by 10:00 AM or so.

Replying to Brattleboro Polices comment, Silas here. The link here is to a Umass page showing that Amherst was ranked as the number #1 college town in America by MSN. And that a host of other critics cited it as top 10 in the world. I do not use this fact as a right to disturb in fact I do very little disturbing at all. People should take into account the student population of Amherst before they move here, especially when considering living in areas near campus or close to student activity.

2nd you who impostors as the Brattleboro police are ill informed. First my dui case never went to court because I was found to be not guilty. Just as the previous comment states innocent until proven guilty. You make a fool of your self when you assume that because of one legal incident that I am a trouble maker. Also you belittle my pokemon card argument which was in fact only referencing the fact that larry's blog layout resembles that of a pokemon card. Pokemon a multi BILLION dollar industry which yes can be used in scholarly debates such as economics and business management.

You're as young as you feel.

And right now kid, I'm feeling mighty spry.

I know Silas Ray Burns. He's a drunk, a liar and a fool.

If you Google his name, half the stuff is about his DUI arrest.

Future employers - beware!

I don't see why I should hire a lawyer and file suit for defamation of character.
