Let's hope our beloved college aged youth don't use the water emergency as an excuse to drink more beer.

What are the chances they'll send students home like before?
ReplyDeleteI would think it's only a remote chance.
ReplyDeleteBut the new Town Manager will have to stay on top of it.
Since you're a local journalist in a university town maybe this hasn't crossed your path, the larger issue google/alphabet disappearing newspaper archives leaves great gaps in local history, examples of the way it used to be, seems like grand theft of cultural patrimony:

Arn't you trespassing?
ReplyDeleteLarry, there is a good chance that there is a second source of water that hasn't been considered -- a pond inherently is below the water table because it would otherwise drain out the bottom like a mud puddle.
ReplyDeleteHence if you pump a lot of water out of the Atkins and lower the water table, water from the adjacent water table will flow in to refill it. You thus have more water than you think you do -- although you are losing a lot to both surface evaporation and the adjacent trees.
Nah, the range of my new bird is pretty amazing.
ReplyDelete~~~~ no one said it was going to be easy

Squeaky Squeeks
Let them drink ale
ReplyDeleteCould you imagine the loss in revenue, both tax and personal, if the students are sent home? That is like taking a breast away from a baby.
ReplyDeleteSeems like if this happens, it will be a huge failure of town government, with huge costs, as usual.
It would be a failure of STATE government that forces Amherst to bear the costs of UMass without providing any support for infrastructure.
ReplyDeleteTime for a Tea Party at the reservoir???
So it is yet another case of the failure of people to properly run their government.
