Descending into a sewer to rescue Nani, age 10
After spending nearly an hour barking plaintively from deep inside a dark scary storm drain AFD and APD combined forces to free the little guy and the DPW will make sure her entry point is sealed. With a side benefit of also keeping out the raccoons.
Now you know why AFD carries so much equipment
Larry,
ReplyDeleteI believe thats actually a storm drain.
What was the point of entry, cannot see how that dog got between the grate bars?
ReplyDeleteNo she used another entrance behind the house about 50 feet away from where AFD was entering. DPW has since sealed it.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the confined space protocol?
ReplyDeleteGas detection, tripod, winch, harness, blower.
This is OSHA mandated.
Hopefully they don't read my blog.
ReplyDeleteLarry, that grate is broken in at least two places -- they couldn't repair it, replace it, or put an orange barrel on it?
ReplyDeleteIt's not going to hold the weight of a car.
Better the dog than a wandering child! Thanks APD and AFD !
ReplyDeleteDamn lucky it wasn't a child.
ReplyDeleteOr what ed?
ReplyDeleteThat grate also needs to be rotated 90 degrees to avoid bike tires falling through!
ReplyDelete"Or what" -- public employees really are starting to thing they are an army of occupation, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteWell if you want someone's dead baby on your conscience, go for it.
Ed...quit your ranting....
ReplyDeleteOne of the posters above has a good point. There are definitely procedures for entering and exiting confined spaces that are state (if not federal) regulations. Are firefighters exempt from this protocol (honest question)?
ReplyDeleteAs far as I"m concerned they are.
ReplyDeleteThe grate is not broken- Anonymous 11:28 is looking at shadows made by the drone.
ReplyDeleteI don't think storm drains are "permit required" confined spaces... If they did their jobs correctly though, a simple oxygen meter reading and long as it's above 19.5%, good to go. No reason to suspect any other conditions that would make it IDLH, given it captures runoff from the road. Besides, how far in did they go? Exactly. Not far. Someone surely will say "but what if a nearby sewer was leaking/venting into the storm drain?"
ReplyDeleteWait. The dog was alive down there... for how long you say? Jump right in folks. No reason to be concerned.
OSHA would be be the proponent for your "federal regulations" by the way...
