'Twas A Conspiracy!

Helen Berg, former Select Board candidate

Forget who fired the fatal shot on the Presidential motorcade or how much thermite was used to bring down those gorgeous towers of glass and steel, little old Amherst has its very own wacky conspiracy theory:

The Blarney Blowout, the most disruptive public disorder of the decade, was a plot "fabricated and orchestrated" by town officials to increase the (woefully inadequate) public safety department budget.

Umm ... yeah.  Safe bet Ed Davis did not interview Helen Berg for her observation about the Blarney Blowout as part of his $160,000 study, due out any day now.

  1. She says shes from Amherst, she ran for government and is a UMASS grad. That means she the perfect resident. Amherst truly is a nutty place to live and filled with psychos.

  2. It's possible, but the Amherst "government" doesn't even know how their own website works, let alone how to use social media to stir up kids at UMass in such a way.

It's true that the $160,000 thrown at the former cop from Boston was a waste, but it's merely a drop in the bucket for the University, and obviously a ruse to defuse the anxiety and fear in town. It worked! The citizens stopped talking about it completely.

  3. Yes, and if UMass wants to keep it that way by burying the Davis Report, they will release it this coming Friday.

  4. But you will be looking for it, won't you Larry?

  7. And Larry, what if the Davis report says some (maybe all) of the things that I have been saying for some time now?

What are the odds that UMass decided to "spike" the report when they started hearing the same stuff from him that they have already long heard from me?

Berg may be a nut but that doesn't mean she is completely wrong. Cop community relations with the college kids have been NONEXISTENT for more than a decade and all of the "Cops'r'Us" folk -- the people who study policing -- repeatedly emphasize the importance of community relations -- and have for longer than most cops today have even been alive.

The UMPD didn't even EXIST in the 1960's, it didn't even have a professional police officer as chief until the mid 1990's, and it went from about 30 officers to 63 inside a decade -- and things are worse NOW then they ever were before. Why?

I'm not so sure that people are going to be happy to see what Davis says -- nor that folks will ever get to even see it...

  8. Oh, folks will get to see it for sure.

The question is how much did the Final Report change from the Draft Report, that we will never get to see.

  9. UMPD was at the "blow out" Ed. They sent 3 (!!!!) cops. UMPD does have 60+ offices..for a part time population. APD had, what, 45? For the WHOLE TOWN! Can't wait to read that report.....

  10. Name checked you, Larry, like implying that you were doing her a favor by mentioning her complaint re: election. Guilt by association.

  11. Hey Larry,
Where's your coverage regarding the "Secret Gateway Transportation Study" and the documented mistruths by Mr. Tucker (and knowledge of them by Mr. Musante) also presented at last nights SB meeting?

  12. Larry, pull your files and tell us how many arrests were made by the UMPD at the BB -- memory was several were, and then divide 3 into the number of officers Amherst had on duty (which I believe was the entire department) and what is the arrest-per-officer ratios?

Then ask yourself if that seems logically possible...

  13. UMPD made 3 arrests at Blarney Blowout. APD made 55.

And bite the hands that feed him?

So the corruption runs deeper, and closer...

So, you choose Helen Berg's 'moment' to blog about instead of our (highly paid) Planning Director's pattern of blatant lying (again known by Mr. Musante) and now proof that he also compromised other employees by providing them false information to forward about important matters?
