Occupants of downtown Lincoln Building party on nearby roof
In spite of it being the last weekend UMass is still in session and picture perfect weather throughout, overall the weekend went well from a pubic safety perspective: lots of fender benders, numerous noise complaints -- but relatively few arrests -- and only one DUI, but it was a doozy.
On Sunday afternoon (only minutes after someone sent me the above photo) police responded to a complaint about a large gathering of college aged youths from Lincoln Building apartment #201 on the adjoining roof of Bueno Y Sanyo. Police told the 30 or so perps to shut off the radio and get inside.
Which they did. Quickly.
Police broke up a party at 202 College Street early Sunday morning leaving each of the two responsible tenants with $300 civil violation tickets for both "noise" and "nuisance" or a cool $600 each. Probably could also have issued them tickets for littering.
And of course our young exuberant friends at the rowdy house located on well traveled North Pleasant Street (#800) were out during the day Saturday with the "You Honk We Drink" sign.
Not a lot of honks, but they drank anyway
800 North Pleasant early Sunday morning
"Eyesores" days are numbered.
People on a roof listening to music who quickly complied with a requst to get off the roof are considered "perps?" A little over the top in terminology, don't you think? These students are NOT criminals.
ReplyDeleteAmherst -- a college town that hates college students, located 2 hours from anywhere college kids would want to be.
ReplyDeleteIn a truly competitive marketplace, that is a huge disadvantage.
And seriously -- Amherst is at least 2 hours from a beach, 2 hours from a ski slope, 2 hours from a decent-sized city, and 2 hours from where these kids are from. Two hours minimum on all of those.
And what exactly is there for the kids to do -- that they WANT TO DO? I'm not saying "constructive" but that isn't "wrong"?
What do the overwhelming majority of students from UMass, Amherst College, and Hampshire College do on their down time and on weekend evenings?
ReplyDelete1st Anon:
ReplyDelete"Perps" is simply shorthand for perpetrators.
And my theory is anytime someone calls the police about something and they respond and issue verbal commands to stop doing that or worse: issue a ticket or make an arrest, you are a perp.
In this case they were disturbing neighbors with loud music, open container violations, possibly underage drinking, trespassing, possible property damages ... so yeah, PERPS.
That's funny, because anyone that writes about a little college student gathering in the sunshine belongs to a group called JERKS. What a coincidence.
ReplyDeletethis blog has gone way over the top in reporting of these "crimes." Larry is just plain obsessed. He needs to get a life..along with Ed and Wally. What a trio!
ReplyDeleteThis from a guy who created a parody blog of me, one which has zero readers.
ReplyDeleteThis is Anon 2:14. I don't know who Larry is talking about but first of all I am not a guy and second of all I do not have a blog - parody or otherwise. I just happened to think that Larry is obsessed.
ReplyDeleteFunny, you sound EXACTLY like the guy who is obsessed with me.
ReplyDeleteBut then, many CANs sound alike.
So let's see, you came here to read the article, posted a comment, then came back to post yet ANOTHER comment, yet I'm the one who is "obsessed".
Hmm ...
Isn't a blog for posting comments. Isn't that what a blog is for? So, if we post comments here we are obsessed?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry there Lar. After this, I will not post any more comments on your blog. Hopefully all the rest of the blog commenters will also refrain from being obsessed and posting on your blog.
What a bizarre take on things. I would think you wanted people to post on your blog. Instead you call us obsessed. You are one weird dude.
Actually I was only calling YOU obsessed (and that other guy who actually worries me a bit).
ReplyDeleteBut don't let the cyber door hit you in the, errr, derriere on the way out.
larry, spelling mistake. "...well from a pubic safety perspective:"
ReplyDeletepubic safety?
Punctuation much? "Eyesore's", you old fart.
ReplyDeleteActually sonny, the pleural of building is buildings and the pleural of an eyesore of a building is eyesores.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Anon 4:23 PM, I meant "public safety." Of have you forgotten the young man killed a year ago by wrong way drunk driver on Rt 116, or the young lady who passed out, hit her head and died on Fearing Street?
why don't you leave the stopping drunk drivers to the cops, you focus on your spelling and punctuation.
ReplyDeleteAt least I have the capitalizing thing down.
ReplyDeleteSorry Larry, but the correct spelling is plural. The word pleural has to do with the lungs.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I made the mistake of responding to the nitwit last night after three hours of Town Meeting, which makes me a tad bleary eyed.
ReplyDeleteI really love the "party on the roof no problem attitude". But every time one of these mis-guided youths tumbles off drunk or sober we have to have a group hug and week of mourning. If this is the attitude you want to have maybe my attitude should be "Told you so! Party On!"
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should add a "Darwin's Award" category.
ReplyDeleteEvery time a college student tumbles off the roof, eh?
ReplyDeleteJust trying to recall the last time that happened, followed by the requisite hug and mourning.
There were about 10 people on the roof in question. The problem for these people wasn't being drunk, which none of them were reported to be.
The problem was/is that the students in Amherst think Amherst is actually a liberal place, when in fact it is one of the most conservative towns around.
Repeat after me, ad nauseum,
NO LOUD MUSIC! NO DANCING!
Actually the officer arrived about 20 minutes after the picture was taken and he reported to Dispatch "30 college aged youth" on the roof.
ReplyDeleteAnon 3:34,
ReplyDeleteYou know how you said that you can't remember the last time a college aged youth fell off a roof here in town? Well it just happened. 407 North Pleasant St.--Male highly intoxicated tumbled off of roof. AFD reporting that he is not concious,
You did not mean a plural, you stinky old fart.
ReplyDelete"Eyesores" days are numbered.
What you meant is a possessive singular form: "Eyesore's" days are numbered"".
So before you jump on people's capitalization and punctuation issued, get your own shit right.
Plus, internet is not a place for punctuation. Neither is your half-wit blog. If you wanted to be a grammar nazi, you should have considered an ACTUAL journalistic career in a print news paper.
Yeah, before they're (not their) all gone like the wind.
ReplyDeleteLook at these kids! Drinking on cinco de mayo while the sun is out. Id rather be in doors playing star craft and listening to police scanners
