A Pair No More

Constant companions for over a generation  (Camperdown Elm rt)

My site meter informed me an unusual number of folks had suddenly come here from a Google search for "Amherst College Elm tree" or close variations of that theme.  I was worried the majestic Camperdown Elm had taken a beating from super storm Sandy, but well before I arrived at the  part of Pratt Field the historic tree has occupied for over 100 years, I instantly knew what stimulated the sudden interest in an elm tree ... or lack thereof.

Now I'm told the whacked tree was a Hop Hornbeam.  And it was a beautiful specimen.

Now but a distant memory

  1. So you're saying the tree is down?

  2. Not the Camperdown Elm, the bigger elm next to it.

The other one on the other side of the Camperdown is probably not long for this world as well.

  4. Ed, WTF?!

Is this really the only way you can manage to write anything coherent -- by directly plagiarizing Wikipedia?

What kind of weird compulsion forces you to keep posting, even when you quite literally have not a single original thing to say?

Did you write a dissertation, "Dr"? What would one find if he or she had the stomach to start combing through it?

  5. I can't help but feel envious because I didn't receive the education that Dr. Ed has, so that I cannot possibly speak with such certainty and authority on such a range of topics.

To have such a great man, such a tower of knowledge, living amongst us in our community is truly a treat.

Please, Ed, do not leave your computer. Do not stop commenting on every single post from Larry. We want to continue to suckle at the enormous teat of your copious life experience and that uncanny and sweeping understanding of the world around you. Our lives have been so enriched in this seemingly endless process of day after day after day after day reading, and taking notes on, what you have to say.

I for one am appreciative of all that you have to give to your fellow man and woman. No one has ever given so much to such an ungrateful audience.

Stay the course, big fella, and don't let the naysayers get you down.

    "our community"

    Community?

Uh, excuse me but um, correct me if I'm wrong... I think you meant to write "our shrewdness". Right?

No, actually, I write better than that -- and would have, if I'd actually written/posted it.
