Here's mud in your eye

UPDATE Jan 30, 2013:

According to Ms. Brooks, she was found guilty of a first offense DUI on September 7, 2012. All
other charges were dropped.

One of the more jarring incidents over the  "Blarney Blowout" weekend occurred early Monday morning (1:30 AM) when a 21-year-old drunk UMass student became embroiled in a "road rage" incident in town center which led to a high speed chase down Amity Street, some of it on the wrong side of the road, a wide turn on University Drive where police pulled over and arrested both drivers before they killed one another, or an innocent bystander.

The road rage continued however as the young lady did not take too kindly to the interdiction by an Amherst Police officer.  She spit on him.  Yes, spit.

Courtney M Brooks, 85 Eastern Ave, Rochester, NH, age 21 was arrested for Operating Under the Influence, speeding, marked lanes violation, marijuana possession, possession of pepper spray without a proper license AND assault on an officer.

Christopher Alviani, 169 Rocky Hill Road, Hadley, MA, age 24 was arrested for Operating Under the Influence, speeding, following too closely.

  1. Obviously the spitting female has watched too much Jersey Shore.

These twerps should see how wonderful APD is with a disoriented senior who has fallen and is bleeding. Or how patient and worried they are with the drunks who are waiting for transport.

I know that every generation thinks the young kids are awful, but we have some really uncouth young people here.

  2. The information in this blog posting is strongly skewed. Don't believe everything you read. Tone and exclusion of facts can lead to a very bias impression.

  3. Tone? I thought my revulsion for this particular incident was pretty well kept in check.

As was my even greater revulsion yesterday when I first reported the 11-year-old girl being accosted by a drunk student Saturday at 4:00 PM.

The facts I published here came from the Amherst Police "media logs" as the actual arrest reports are not public documents; so if I missed anything it's because they would have been in the police arrest report.

Since you seem to know so much about this particular incident, feel free to enlighten my readers about any "exclusion of facts".

  4. I will enlighten: it was a girl!!!

If you do not say UMass woman, the presumption is that it was a guy. The Gazette is worse -- Hadley man and UM student makes the presumption that the UM student was male too.

And why do I think that she was of the belief that she could get away with such antics -- well, she is female and all....

    Larry, you blew this one.

  5. I used to think Larry Kelley was insane.

Then I read his commenters, including the incomparable Ed.

    I'm sorry, Larry.

  6. I know Chris Alviani very well. He's a great kid, very smart, and very responsible. He's the type of guy you don't want your own mother to meet because she'd forever ask you "Why can't you be more like Chris Alviani?" from that day forward. I hope nobody judges him to harshly. He just apparently made a mistake and lost his temper, which is out of character for him. We all have a "worst thing we've ever done." But by and large we shouldn't be judged too harshly on that one thing! Just wanted to put that out there...

People make mistakes. Courtney is a great person and student who just had a little bit of bad judgement.

  8. It seems to me that you're writing an overstated article to get more views. Unless you were there, you shouldn't hold such strong judgments for these students that I assume you don't know. The facts are you weren't there so reading a police log with exact violation classifications for an unique case can easily be misinterpreted. With that said, Brooks and Alviani were far from right and they'll do their dues but bias blogs aren't necessary.
