Superbowl Sunday night, UMass Southwest
Unfortunately this is a dog bites man kind of story, but it underscores the problems a huge bureaucracy has dealing with rowdy student behavior: Nineteen year old Cullen Roe filed a federal lawsuit after the University expelled him only days after the Superbowl "riot" in Southwest.
,
And since he's only 19, safe bet parents had a lot to do with financing the lawsuit in order to protect the money already spent on Mr. Roe's fledgling years at UMass. Sounds to me like throwing good money after bad.
Springfield Republican reports
How can students have the audacity to do this? I, and so many others, don't approve of this and are happy with the universities decision to toss the schmucks out. Perhaps I should sue him for slandering the school name.
ReplyDeleteRemember: like so many other things that go on in this litigious world, you are only going to hear one side of the story, that coming from the student's lawyers, for a very long time, and perhaps forever. Those with the authority have to keep their mouths shut.
ReplyDeleteExhibit A: the Vassell case.
And the media never tells you straight out: "our sources are only on one side."
We increasingly live in a world where no one takes responsibility for his/her actions and no one can hold anyone responsible. At that point, your culture and your civilization goes in the toilet.
I actually don't blame the kid, you have an over zealous university, and have newbie District Attorney Sully, who doesn't have a lot to do, other than go to fundraisers, in the happy valley, and wants to make a name for himself.
ReplyDeleteCome on Larry, you know as well as anyone, that Newbie DA Sully isn't a court room D.A. He is an administrator, who is trying to make name for himself, by coming down hard on students. Wow, that is going to go a long way towards curbing their behavior.
ReplyDeleteThe student will prevail.
Maybe because on September 9--the night Dave was handing out oatmeal cookies to the students--the Meadow Street Riot occurred, which was probably worse than the Superbowl riot.
ReplyDeleteTo think that Sully is going to move the needle on curbing these incidences is naive.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, he has nothing better to dig into,so he hands out oatmeal cookies, he is no D.A. Mastrianni, or Bennett of Springfield, with bigger, meaningful issues at hand.
He is a light weight.
Sounds to me like you voted for Michael Cahillane.
ReplyDeleteI supported Sullivan, but I am disappointed in what I have seen thus far.
ReplyDeleteI won't vote that way again.
Larry, I hope he sues the s**t out of the state, and I hope he names the town as a co-defendant because they were there. Frankly, I hope he subponeas you to testify on your blog postings...
ReplyDeleteWhat is interesting -- truly interesting -- is that he is *not* naming he woman who is in charge of the student judicial program. That is really interesting, but I digress.
And Larry, any scintilla of respect I had for the police was |/dev/null when they declared martial law AND PREVENTED ME FROM GOING TO THE LIBRARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was not rioting -- I could care less about football, I had schoolwork to do. I live a mile from Southwest.
But because I complied with their ILLEGAL order, I may not graduate. And the understanding I have with UMass is simple: I graduate or I (a) sue and (b0 spend the rest of my life in Amherst causing just as much trouble as I possibly can.
Ed is not kidding -- it will be scorched earth and folks don't have an idea of some of the training i have....
AS TO THE LAWSUIT, UMass is not on solid ground here. They kicked him out BEFORE they had a hearing. You can't do that, you couldn't even do that in Stalinist Soviet Russia -- they had to give you a show trial.
Further, have you bothered to see if he is bringing this suit Pro Se? He may be -- just because you couldnt doesnt mean tha there arent kids bright enough at UM to be able to .
And to the UMPD -- it is going to be a long spring -- throw in an Israeli strike on Iraq (I hear March) and I say "Kent State Part Deux." What is going to happen guys is simple, you are going to get absorbed into the MSP and your lovely new station is going to replace the aging Hamp barracks.
RESTORE LAKE HITCHCOCK!!!

ReplyDeleteAh, of course. The post we've all been waiting for: This year's excuse for Ed's failure to graduate. Not his fault! Nor, of course, will option (a) come to pass, because filing a lawsuit would require almost as much effort as doing schoolwork.
Instead we shall continue to be entertained by Ed's oh-so-scary "troublemaking". I'm already starting to feel the blistering heat from his scorched-blog campaign. Tell me, Ed -- what's the digital equivalent of a wedgie? Is that the kind of mayhem you have in store for us all?

ReplyDelete"Continue"? Ed has not yet started.
Operation Chaos is a real plan, but not something that I would enjoy doing.
