Graffiti filled fence behind Rao's
Amherst Police arrested two old-enough-to-know-better men late Saturday afternoon for "tagging" this fence behind Rao's Coffee, a popular spot for hipsters and townies to hang out for the great coffee and free wifi.
Thus, is you are going to deface property, you probably should wait until after a popular business closes.

ReplyDeleteLooks like they were adding their designs to a public art display already in progress.
Graffiti is the least of it with at least one of these guys. Google Tyrus Stinson and Jayson Stinson... armed home invasion, burglary, stabbing at Amherst College dorm party, stealing from Antonio's tip jar... they've been part of the crime scene for 10 years or so.
ReplyDeleteActually, Cuong Ly is no upstanding citizen either. Why are these guys out and about? Stabbings, DUI on motorcycle... why are these guys out and about? (And, scarily, together.)
ReplyDeleteLiberal judges perhaps?
ReplyDeleteRao's is great but that little area out back can get pretty creepy.
ReplyDeleteI actually try not to walk there after dark, and I'm a youngish, able-bodied person. I don't know how I would feel if I were an older community member heading to the Bangs Center or living in those apartments. This is a situation where beat cops and community policing would really help a lot.
ReplyDeleteDamn! I just realized I am an older community member.
ReplyDeleteIt sneaks up on you.
ReplyDeletethat area is known for drugs. where are the police?
ReplyDeleteThey were there to take these two dudes off the street.
ReplyDeletecool I need some weed
ReplyDeleteOnce the spotlight comes on, the rats tend to scamper elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteAmherst Cinema building should do something to get rid of the graffiti. Leaving it just spreads more.
ReplyDeletegrafitti is the ballsiest form of public art
ReplyDeleteThis town is really changing and I'm nervous about the level of violence and type of people we are drawing. There certainly must be something that can be done before it is to late and we end up like so many other area towns which are now havens for gangs and crime. As the cities get tougher on criminals they head north.
ReplyDeleteYO THE LIBRARY WAS ON FIIIRE WHEN I GOTS DERE!
ReplyDeleteReally? Well, you can call it artwork when it's on your property.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't the fence been painted over after every graffiti incident and the area maintained? The long broken lights embedded in cement posts are now being used as tiny trash receptacles/ashtrays and the shrubbery needs attention.
ReplyDeleteYes, Bach,
ReplyDeleteCuong Ly and the other fine upstanding artist will soon be exhibiting their work at MOMA, the BMFA, and several other museums, right after they finish their jail terms for burglary, home invasion, etc. Perhaps their defense for those will be that it was performance art.
Graffiti and other art forms is essential for our souls. Arts helps connect people together weather if they're conversing about art positive or negative. People learn and grow from it. Not everyone is bad. Art has helped me in so many senses and to place my past into this is irrelevant. Me, Cuong Ly is doing good for myself and for the community I surround myself in...Thanks though.
