Sign of confidence?

Landlord Barry Roberts must be fairly sure the Amherst Brewing Company will get Zoning Board of Appeals approval at next week's hearing (even with Hilda Greenbaum Chairing) for a move into the former Leading Edge Gym location on University Drive a mile down the road; or--like the smart businessman he is--just hedging his bet.

  1. Maybe they'll put in a McDonald's.

    Bwahahahahaha

  2. A McDonald's did move in across the street ten years or so ago and Antonio's Pizza (then owned/operated by Bruno Matarazzo) put them out of business.

  3. corrupt insider is the proper term for Roberts

  4. Call it what you will (and when you're an Anon your credibility is suspect) but NOBODY has done more to revitalize downtown Amherst than Barry Roberts.

  6. As I said, you have the credibility of a cockroach.

  7. Roberts has more integrity than the rest of the town put together. People are always jealous of success.

  9. It's what you do with it that counts (but then, you would not know that).

  10. I don't know Barry Roberts personally but they own the farm up the street from me. And all I can say is I never see him just outside relaxing. Everytime I see him he is working on something. Even if he was born into wealth he appears to be putting his fair share in. So before we judge him, state some examples of why he is undeserving of what he has attained. Then what you have done, and should have attain the same but been denied (Bach please don't post LOL!). I agree with anon 11:25 sometime people can become the object of envy when they appear successful.

  11. like i said, when you are born into wealth it is a lot easier.

try rising from 5 dollars in your pocket and get back to me.

no one ever accused me of being a slouch.

  12. go to rao's, drop a fin on some jo and a bagel, enjoy the metal art, and we'll call it a deal

  13. There are quite a few vacancies and underutilized spaces downtown. I would hate the current ABC space to become one of them.

  14. that wouldn't have anything to do with landlords driving up the rent would it?

  15. I'll do you one better than that. I started with $0.00 in my pocket with a single Mom on welfare. she worked nights and went to nursing school during the day. I earned every cent I have. And now own my own home and (2) cars. I did through hard work (80 hrs/week)and saving money. My point now is should I be critique on the opportunities I had to acquire these things through hard work? Or should my sons, who I may transfer the wealth my lifes work on to when I pass on? I say no, Barry apparently comes from a family that worked hard at some point, and the end result is he is continuing this tradition. Yes he may have had a leg up on the rest of us, but hey that's life. Maybe my kids will have a leg up on yours through my hard work and their continuation of it.

  16. Maybe Roberts will open a theater catering to gay curious men.

Knowing Amherst, that'd pack em in.

    (no pun intended)

  17. "Shaffer spoke about the role of technology in city government and how he integrated technological advances in Amherst. From Smart Boards — large interactive displays that connect computers and projectors to each other and to the Internet — to Reverse 911 to putting City Council meetings online, Shaffer said, technology helps bring the public into the policy making process, breaking down "the fortress that is City Hall.""

""Shaffer said his management style is that of a coach or mentor. He also believes in succession, saying that promoting from within and grooming his staff is important in ensuring that the values of the community endure. His assistant during his tenure in Amherst is now that town's administrator, he said."

    LOL

    Are you fucking kidding me??!!??

when you say hedging his bet, that seems like he is wasting people's time by showing a rental that "might" be available. if that is true, it reveals something about mr robert's ethics. if he has inside information about the new abc location, that also says he is working on inside info..which is highly suspect as well.

face it, he puts up a good front, but he is a seedy developer like all the rest. if he is better than the rest of Amherst, it is truely a sad state of affairs

  21. Oh, I'm virtually certain he has no more "inside information" than do I, yet we have both come to the same conclusion.

Anyone remotely interested in the ABC current location can stop in anytime for a beer and look around. Hardly a waste of their time.

  23. Hey Larry,

If you despise the anonymous commenters so much, why don't you ban them? It's an easy switch to throw in your blogger controls.

Oh, that's right. You can't do that because that would mean no one could read or comment on your precious blog. You'd be stuck commenting to your own posts over and over and over.
