And so it goes...

High noon

Yes, venerable Amherst Town Hall is closed. But the DPW is going great guns (if I dare use that metaphor these days) as is the Police and Fire Departments. Interesting how it's those on the lower end of the payscale who are considered "essential personnel."

  1. Hear, hear, Larry.

    Way to tell 'em, Larry.

    Keep on pitching, Larry.

    You are the greatest, Larry.

No one says "harrumph" quite like you, Larry, every single day.

  2. It's good to be non-essential!

  3. Info on a superintendent finalist:

"Kohn had long been criticized by Mayor Linda Thompson for his $235,431 annual salary and the district's failure to meet targets for PSSA scores during his nine-year tenure."

  4. But as a result probably retired with a hell of a pension, so whatever we would pay him is just icing on the cake.

  5. Larry -- a rather obnoxious person whom any competent police officer would stop for general principle did put something disturbing on facebook -- allegedly the police stopped him for driving down Route 9 today?

I thought only the governor could declare it illegal to drive...

    Please advise....

  6. Larry:

Dr. Kohn was fired from his last two superintendent positions. He did NOT retire. He was fired.

So, one of our three Super finalists was fired from his last two jobs and one of the reasons he was fired from his last job was because the district's schools were under-performing.

He's also a very litigious person. He sued the Vineland chool Districts when he was fired. I am not sure if he also sued the Harrisburg school district but I did read he was considering it.

Yup! Just the person we want running our schools here in Amherst.

All this information about Dr. Kohn can be found by googling him and I encourage everyone to do just that and read the details for themselves.

  7. Who the hell is running the search commitee? If it is that easy to find this type of info. they should know this. If they do know it and still think this is one of the best picks we have I hang my head in shame that I live here. Have we still not learned anything from our past selections. If we comtinue to consider misfits like this guy we are destine to fail time amd time again. It sounds to me like we either have a lazy search commitee that is taking the path of least resistance in making selections.

  8. I actually kind of like the fact he was fired from an overly sheltered, politically charged, expensive bureaucracy.

At least he lasted almost 9 years, and even our 'Golden Boy' Jere Hochman only lasted five (although he represented the Second Coming of Christ so obviously he was not fired and simply jumped ship for a better offer.)

  9. Jere and Elaine made a hell of a team.

    Nuff said.
