Party House of the weekend

47 Hobart Lane: note load of beer cans in back of pick up truck

So I had a hard time deciding a winner. On the one hand, we have 21 Hobart Lane which garnered two (2) $300 "Nuisance House" town bylaw violation tickets, but my favorite is 47 Hobart Lane (owned by Jones Properties) which only garnered one.

According to police logs narrative by the responding officer: "Resident (Brian P, age 21) called stating their were to many people surrounding his house that he did not know. Approximately 100 people observed around 47 Hobart Lane. Brian P approached me in the roadway asking to help clear people from his house. I advised him to enter his house, turn the music off and tell people to leave. Officers began to clear people out with minimal cooperation. Several underage drinkers observed who were summoned. Approximately an additional 150 people were cleared from the house. Empty beer cans/bottles and trash covered the ground surrounding the house. Brian P issued Nuisance House bylaw citation."

The reason why I like this one is because the perp called it in on himself. Priceless.

Not a great sign when the Hobart Lane street sign has been replaced by a beer can

And this, of course, is #27 the house in between #47 and #21-all odd number appropriately enough. This one is also owned by Jones Properties. Gotta wonder if Watroba's misses their banner?

  1. He was being smart. Better to clear out the house than to have a party that had gotten to large to control lead to something far worse than a $300 ticket.

  2. I loved showing up at those parties and commandeering the keg and feeling like a rockstar because I'd get to decide whose cup got filled next (usually mine or the wasted hot blond)

  3. Anon. 1:13 is right. Yet our officers had to penalize him anyway. At times, the cops in this town are their own (and ultimately our) worst enemy.

  4. I believe when the Nitwit called it in he was only concerned about the (100) kids OUTSIDE his house that he did not recognize.

Meanwhile, he had allowed the crowd INSIDE his house to grow to 150 (all Facebook buddies no doubt).

And when asked politely by APD to disperse, the throng reacted with "minimal cooperation."

From now on these kids should charge a $2 cover at the door so when they pack in 150 "friends" and get hit with a noise or nuisance house bylaw fine, they will be able to handle the $300 penalty.

  5. My guess is the cover charge for the cost of making noise has already been instituted.

And, if it hasn't, our country is doomed.

  6. The Hobart fun continues- this will be in tomorrow's Gazette:
AMHERST - A man at a Hobart Lane home who was trying to scratch his nose with the barrel end of a BB gun accidentally shot himself in the face Monday night.

Police responded to the residence at 8:52 p.m. after the man, sitting on a bed and watching a movie, discharged a pellet up his right nostril.

He was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Police said the injury occurred because the man didn't realize the safety was not engaged.

  7. Larry, look at like this:

A citizen called the police for assistance. Not the neighbors, not the cops driving on patrol (why weren't they?) but the kid called the police AND THEY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE OTHERWISE!!!

And they ticket HIM? That is like ticketing the woman who is raped and is screaming for help -- yes, she is violating the noise ordinance, but, like, umm....

And do you not start to understand why UMass students no longer trust the APD????

  8. Oh, I think APD would have been there otherwise (150 kids in the house and 100 outside) especially since they gave his neighbor 2 nuisance tickets that night.

  9. Anybody else deeply worried that UMass students don't trust the Amherst Police Department? That really keeps me awake at night.

Students who don't trust cops. Whew, that's a shocker.

  10. Would someone remind me again about the UMass academic reputation? I'm missing it amongst all the student hooliganism, noise complaints, beer consumption, public urination, property damage, and self-inflicted injury.

I understand that some neighbors on the edge of the University campus regularly go away on the weekends to get away from all of it. Must make it hard to study for those poor folks who are there to get an education.

Wasn't there a whole bunch of APD outreach meetings earlier this year relative to break-ins that the cops are very clearly saying are not being done by UM students? Didn't the APD make it very clear that they needed the cooperation of the citizens?

Students who don't trust cops. Whew, that's a shocker.

Try "citizens who don't trust cops" and can you say "South Central LA, Circa 1991"?

  12. Falmouth Police must have had the same training (ticket the victim)

(Car accident due to man choking on raisin and passing out (The air bag dislodged the raisin)
He got a ticket for impeded driving
