Consonance and Dissonance
So if I were--God forbid--the editor of the esteemed Amherst Bulletin, I would have been a tad more, errr, snarky with my Page One layout.
I loved the main above-the-fold top story placement for "ACLU backs 'official' blogs" as well as the almost equal placement (folks read left to right) of A-Rods rant about his brief tenure as highest paid Superintendent in history. Hey, at least he did not blame the blogosphere this time.
But the just below-the-fold, "Amherst Boycotts Arizona" contiguous with Amherst Regional High School baseball pitching phenom Kevin Ziomek getting drafted by the ARIZONA Diamondbacks where the Bully purposely left Arizona out of the headline "Ziomek drafted by Diamondbacks" is what I'm really talking about.
Oh well, I guess the diffident Amherst Bulletin doesn't want to piss off the Amherst powers that be.
Larry, yeah, yeah, and they coulda made it fit with 'AZ Diamondbacks draft Ziomek'
ReplyDeleteLoving the irony!!
That's because they have more class than you and they wouldn't rain on his parade.
ReplyDeleteKind of a stupid time to pull out that cliche as it is currently raining; and the Amherst 250th Anniversary Parade Committee actually made $30,000 from an insurance company by having it sprinkle a few minutes before the parade kicked off.
ReplyDeleteHey Larry,
ReplyDeleteYou know what's really "ironic" ? The fact that people move to Amherst, stay long enough to squawk (voice their opinions)...then they move away to some place "better", leaving Amherst deeper in fecal matter! Now, that's ironic! The ONLY people earning their paychecks and deserve RESPECT are the hardworking men/women of the APD and AFD.
Where is the rest of the money? Where are the answers to the questions posed by the voters before the prop override? Alberto Rodriguez's "setting the record straight" is an eyeopener for any Amherst voter! Where are Farshid Hajir's notebooks? Lets get some bumper stickers made saying " I heart AZ" and pass them out so those of us who do not agree with this fascist select board, will have a chance to make their voice heard!!!

I like the idea of bumper stickers.
ReplyDeleteHeck since this is Amherst I would even print up little ones for bicycles.
'Alberto Rodriguez's "setting the record straight" is an eyeopener for any Amherst voter!'
ReplyDeleteIt sure is... although it is more revealing about ARod than about the town.
What, things were not perfect when he got here? Big surprise! He was brought in at great expense to take things and and make changes, and not necessarily to have an easy time of it.
And he did do an interview with the venerable Amherst Bulletin early on saying that he "could handle the heat."
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that the town of Amherst is unable to find a local superintendent that might want to stay longer than six months and provide a job for someone in town?

The sick little game aren't amusing any-more, Amherst...
ReplyDeleteKeep it up and we'll take away the prozac...
"I love Arizona" bumper stickers to be passed out at the Amherst Farmers Market Saturday June 19, a small donation requested to cover the cost of printing...hope to see you all there!!!!
ReplyDeleteLarryK4 "could handle the heat" I bet he didn't expect to be smothered in dung! Heat is one thing, being from Fl.he was probably used to it, but unless you have lived, worked and paid taxes here in Amherst for decades, then dung can be quite a shock to the system. AROD was trying to make the "changes, and because of this, "heads" were going to roll. Amherst doesn't want heads to roll, they want to hang on to their connected fold, at ANY cost!
ReplyDeleteLarry,
ReplyDeleteThis is the best you got? Snarking on the layout of the Amherst Bulletin. Your blog is going the way of the AAC. First you lose energy and interest, followed by claiming your not, soon to be followed by the "Out of Business" sign.
Pity.
I'm sure that would make your day. Even better if I blew my brains out.
ReplyDeleteDo you need a permit for that (blowing brains out)?
ReplyDeleteWell, this is Amherst.
ReplyDeleteViva la 1070!
ReplyDeleteAmherst politics is getting really silly and petty and the behavior of all involved sets a terrible example for the school kids. I'm just glad my kids have long since graduated and moved on so they don't have to be affected by this nonsense. Arizona, Shmarizona. Who cares? What does this have to do with anything that directly affects us? Why does the select board waste our time with this stupidity? Amherst wants to withdraw from Union 26? Let them. Why should Pelham's votes be constrained by the number of students attending the regional system? They'd always be outvoted on any issue unless they agreed with Amherst. How is THAT fair? There are other school regions who would be happy to invite Pelham to join up with them. Let Amherst self-destruct all on its own - and it sure looks like it's headed that way - without taking everyone else down. Someone should write a book. "The Rise and Fall of the Amherst Empire." It should probably include separate chapters on the July 4th parade controversies, School Committee members, Michael DeChiara and his ever-increasing quest for power, the West Side Story idiocy that made national news, political correctness run amok, and the horrible decision-making when it comes to how the town spends money that ultimately causes people to run for the hills because they can't afford to live here anymore. This dream town of ours has become a nightmare, and an embarrassment.

GREENFIELD -- A question has been raised before the Northwestern District Attorney's office by the chairmen of several school committees in western Massachusetts as to whether it is legal for members of public boards to have blogs on which they post comments and opinions concerning the work of their committees.
Five chairmen, representing school committees in Shutesbury, Leverett, Amherst, Pelham and one Hampshire County regional school district, have asked the district attorney to provide an opinion on the questions before the job of handling questions about the Open Meeting Law.
Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Pepyne, who is tasked with offering legal opinions on violations of the Open Meeting Law, has said she is likely to offer guidance to the chairmen in the next week or so
Yeah, the Greenfield Recorder is now owned by the same company that bought the Gazette, Bulletin and Valley Advocate.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised they just did not rerun the Gazette article from last week.
