"Brother Against Brother" Civil War

Hmm...a Yes and No sign on the same lawn. Perhaps a husband going one way and his spouse the other. Kind of like Select Board incumbent (with no competition thus guaranteed reelection) Alisa Brewer (Yes) and Umass Prof husband Steven Brewer (No) fighting it out over on Localocracy.org

(And yeah, I gave him 5 of my 10 ratings points to drive his comment to the top.)

  1. And on a great note is as I was driving around enjoying my afternoon off I noticed there appears to be more people with NO signs out in their yards than YES signs. Could this be a "Sign" of things to come? One can only hope, I can't wait to cast my NO ballot on the 23rd.

  2. Indeed.

And you must also notice that most of the Yes folks also have a Rick Hood for School Committee sign as well. Kind of goes hand in hand. He being a blank check kind of guy (easy when it's Other Peoples Money).

Let's hope for a double victory on Tuesday: Override sinks and Captain Ricky Boy Hood also goes down with the ship.

  3. Hmm..your obnoxious Comment is almost three times longer than my entire post.

  4. I've seen pro override signs with a lot of different school candidates (alot of spence ones), but the no more overrides have no school committee signs. Who you supporting?

  5. All school committee members support an override, so that pretty much means I'm not voting in that election.

  6. Well I believe Stan Gawle, spokesman for Amherst Taxpayers for Responsible Change, has a Letter in today's crusty Bully endorsing Rob Spence (and no other candidate--hint, hint to bullet vote).

  7. Do I hear china breaking over at the Brewer estate?

Some domestic disagreements are "too much information".

  8. On Localocracy, Baer Tierkel talking about the Amherst "we've built"?

    Ouch.

  9. Perhaps we now know why Alisa pushed for a menu.

She knew from her own kitchen table that a lump sum override vote was too big of a target, the center of a circular firing squad.

Long term, Ms. Brewer is still the most savvy politician in town, which is intended here as a compliment. And the fact that no one has come forward to run against her (and get squashed like a bug) is an indication that most residents know it.

If this thing goes down, the real second-guessing needs to take place between the ears of O'Keeffe, Stein, and Hayden.

  10. Oh, I wouldn't go THAT far.

Eva Schiffer had two terms at SB and never an opponent and now Jim Wald is waltzing into Gerry Weiss's seat completely unopposed and he doesn't strike me as an overly savvy politician.

But yeah, when this goes down (and it most certainly will) blame it on (mainly) O'Keeffe, and to a lesser extent Stein, Hayden, and don't forget Baer 'The Turk' Turkiel.

  11. I enjoy seeing dueling signs on a single lawn. It shows a civil disagreement, something we certainly need more of nowadays. I even told my teenager that s/he would be welcome to plant a green "Yes" sign next to my yellow and black "No" if desired. Offer declined.

I wondered if you'd suggest bullet voting, Larry-- I was planning to. Nobody but Spence seems to have much of a fiscal clue. And the last thing I want is for my lukewarm second choice pick to defeat my first choice in a close race.

Am very curious whether the ACE brand is still as attractive to lots of voters as it is to me. I expect Rob Spence may pick up some yellow sign voters, too. At least those who pay attention.

Please tell me that the teenager has a gender and knows which it is...

    Yes, this is Amherst, but....

  13. Oh, listen could you take Ed with you. That guy sounds like he comes out of the old south.

First, it is the old NORTH that I am from, also known as the "Wild Wild East"

Second, you are a fascist National Socialist.

    Third, Neichie put it best:

"No shepherd and one herd! Everybody wants the same, everybody is the same: whoever feels different goes voluntarily into a madhouse" -- Thus spoke Zarathustra

The fact that cowardly anonymous schmucks seek to attack me personally can only serve as clear and convincing evidence that I am right.

  14. Larry,

I hear this is how it went down for you.

You used to be a regular guy who even smiled once a month and then Leisure Services offered a martial arts class at a better price than your class. And you've been bitter ever since. Wow that goes back a long way.

You've committed your life to being a small town menace.

However, now you send your kid, who lives in Amherst, to a charter school. For those who don't know, charter schools can determine how many kids they allow in their school and they can kick kids out who they don't think fits their model. Whereas public schools have to take every kid and keep her no matter if she fits their model or not. That is how American tax dollars should be spent.

And, these semi-private schools take your tax dollars out of your local school and put them in a school not even in your town. Charter schools are socialist the way I see it. Larry Kelley is a socialist in disguise.

Funny Larry, but this strikes me as exactly the same kind of scenario you have spent your entire adult life being bitter about.

    Would you call this hypocrisy?

Oh, but I guess it's fair and legal to rob tax dollars from this town and spend it on kids not attending the Amherst public schools.

    Flame away, Mr Bitter.

  15. Yeah, you got me.

Too bad the venerable Amherst schools could not educated their children at the same rate as Charter Schools as it would save the taxpayers over $10 million annually.

And hey, ten million here and ten million there pretty soon you're talking real money.

Charter schools also on average outperform the traditional public schools as well.

  16. Ed said "Third, Neichie put it best:

First, Ed, perhaps one day you will learn how to spell. Your posts are so often filled with spelling errors...no wonder you are still in college and have not gotten a job as a teacher where you would inflict your spelling on the unsuspecting students in your class.

Secondly, people personally attacking you does not indicate you are right about anything. You are usually wrong about everything. The attacks only indicate what a fool you are.

  17. Ed, I forgot to add that Neichie is actually spelled Nietzsche.

  18. Ed, I forgot to add that Neichie is actually spelled Nietzsche.

I thought it was too - but I looked it up and got the other spelling, along with the different translation from T.S.Z.

Secondly, people personally attacking you does not indicate you are right about anything. You are usually wrong about everything. The attacks only indicate what a fool you are.

How circular our logic has become. Persons who know that I am wrong have to go out of their way to attack me personally even knowing that no one is going to believe me and this shows that I am wrong.

    Bull....

If I was not relevant, they would simply ignore me. As the Air Force says, the fact that people are shooting at you means that you are over the target.

And the fact that I get nasty personal attacks serves to indicate how much the attackers fear me. And that tends to indicate my relevance. Does this not make more logical sense?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ed:

I would say that people are not attacking you. They are simply pointing out what a fool and blowhard you are. And oh so egotistical. Its true, we should all just ignore you...in the hope that you will just go away. You are like a small child...you need the attention. And if we all ignore your ridiculous attention-getting rants maybe you will just go away.

Ignoring my 5 year old's rants usually does the trick. I think I will now do the same with you. Heaven forbid that my pointing out what a fool you are would make you think that you are right.

My last post in response to Ed's obsurd opinions and posts.

Bad parenting skills, bad human skills.

    Typical Amherst sludge.

Yes, a dangerous bomber over a valuable target will get shot at. But so will a clown face at the carnival.

  22. Larry, is your camera out of adjustment or is that house on the left really lavender?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lavender indeed!

Owned by the irascible Prudencio Gomez d/b/a Pruddy's Tropical Bar and Grill (may he Rest In Peace.)

After the town, finally, shut down his bar in town center he repainted his house.

  24. Hilarious. Where's Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and, oh, lets just throw in Bill O"Reilly too (and a dictionary?). LOL. A curious "old time Amherst" person here... Independent, supported the charter, and an override or two, willing to close, say, at least one library... and see exactly WHAT every school is expected to "do,fix, feed, cure" in our students (oh... and then teach). Is the mission if this blog to entertain (mission accomplished)? Embarrass community volunteers, organizers who oppose conservative extreme? Indoctrinate some sort of independent thinking (nahhh). Wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes, what Pruddy Gomez didn't realize was that the Victorians were into those pastel colors and hence that the house would look good in the two-tone purple format.

Memory was that he then started painting the side facing South Whitney bright yellow - and this is a free country and I still remember the house in Springfield painted with polka dots...

But the lavender house really does look nice and, IMHO, is reflective of the color scheme that the people who built it would have gone with had they had exterior paints not based on white lead.

I am undecided on the school committee. I want someone who listens and cares. Leaning to Hood and Dalkas. Thoughts?
