Parade Prep

So in addition to the town hanging red-white-and-blue bunting along the waistline of venerable Town Hall, the state put up these large electronic message signs on the main arteries leading into Amherst Center.

And my wife tells me that we also heard from Town Manger Larry Shaffer this afternoon via the “emergency” call system promoting the Parade.

Sunday, September 27 @ 1:00 PM (no protesters allowed.)

  1. No protesters? What about my freedom of speech rights? I want to carry my FIRE LARRY SHAFFER! sign.

  3. I'm sure glad my phone does not get any of the town messages :)

(its an unlisted number that was originally a 2nd line- when we got rid of the main line, we became invisible to all except the phone company billing dept!)

  4. Yes I HATE government. Let's go petition for redress of our grievances.

And if there's ever a toxic spill from one of the trains that run through town, we'll be sure to miss your unlisted funeral.

  6. I agree with the emergency alert phone calls. I DO NOT agree with abusing the use of them to notify people of a parade. I didnt listen to the whole thing, in fact i hung up as soon as i heard what it was about. Lets use it for real emergencies, not to solicit a town event. If it happens too often people will just hang up when they hear his voice. or maybe it should say "emergency messege" at the beginning.. i dunno.. just a thought.

Oh. i wonder if Larry Schaffer got a call him self... and where did he recieve that call? Amherst of Easthampton?!!!

A typically snotty little thing to come from the brain of one of Amherst's finest. Funny how it's always just below the surface...

If they don't want the calls, that's their business. Understand?

    Now, f*ck off.

  10. bach - Your comments here do nothing but further make me question your "case" against Amherst.

  12. This whole reverse-911 is bullshit.

We existed for what, 350 years without it. Never a problem.

So now that we have this technology that allows the powergrubbers to annoy us, they have to use it.

    And I ask why?
