What a difference a century makes.

Hadley was of course the birthmother of Amherst, ejecting us from the nest 250 years ago (we were swampland at the time.)

So Hadley, in celebration of their 350'Th anniversary, repainted Town Hall, decked it out in red-white-and-blue and note the absence of a UN flag. Not to mention, unlike Amherst, they have their own town town flag flying under Old Glory (and in the Boston State House.)

  1. Your attempt to turn some observations into a narrative and a morality play have... failed.

  2. Just another reason so people are leaving Amherst and moving to Hadley! It isn't just the low taxes, it is moving to a town that is considered normal!

  3. Well gee there Anon 3:12 PM; coming from a prominent Anon like you, I guess I'm duly chasticised. I guess...

Hey, at least it was brief--you know how those morality plays can drone on forever.

    LOL.

Did the rolfing and energy work help you connect with that insight?

    Flush.

  5. If you read this blog, you absolutely DO know how those morality plays can drone on forever.

Anybody notice that as soon as Mr. Kelley got out of the way, the Parade Committee worked out a way to get the retiring fire chief back in the parade?

There's talk and beating your chest about what a tough guy you are, and then there's getting things done.

Any more plans for going out of the country?

  7. If Amherst wanted a Home Depot, a Walmart and a McDonald's, Burger King, A KFC, and a four lane highway through the middle of town they could lower their taxes too! Instead they have tax exempts and walk around complaining about it.

  8. Thanks (only) to Kevin Joy for working out a compromise on this years parade nonsense. I grew up in Amherst and I'm 100 percent embarrassed by all this school yard childish shit. I live in Hadley now where we don't have these asinine feuds brought on by "outsiders to the five college area" verses the so called "old time townies" of Amherst. I know all my close and longtime Amherst friends feel the same way. Ziomeks, Shumways,Abramson's, Whittemores,etc.. and certainly the Joy family.

Let's take a lesson from Hadley and make Amherst more like it used to be. A college community like it's always been, but also a friendly New England town.

Change or move on. It's just that simple. Grow up and support.

    Have a nice day.

  10. Hadley gets crappy schools and urban blight that matches Boston Road in Springfield. Yeah, they sure showed us.

  11. In case you hadn't noticed,Mr.
Kelley has not been on the committee for two years, and Kevin Joy is not a one man committee. Most of us on that committee are
Townies, and I have been here for 67 years, and my great aunt, before me. Wow, some cowboys get all the glory, but neglect to recognize the people that are helping them put this parade on. Thanks, Kevin, for your loyalty and support. Yes, I am a rather bitter committee member, but at this point, who cares.

Larry, thanks for the help,, even though you resigned, and I am greatfully indebted to you for the help with the battle of the Flags and parade, since we formed this committee.

Keep fighting Larry, maybe they will listen one day.

    Until later................

  12. Hey Ethel,
I have a good to great feeling about this particular parade. With the two retiring Chief's acting as co-marshals and the fact it's a Saturday and the weather is supposed to fine…

I can't wait! I will of course volunteer to do security patrol on my mountain bike.
