Vince O’Connor has created more front organizations than the Mafia. The Zoning groups Alisa refers to during her cross-examination were all created by Vince over a particular issue. All of his “coalitions” are one trick ponies designed to give the cause more gravitas. And since it only takes 10 signatures to get on the warrant he has a small but dedicated following of ‘The Usual Suspects’.
Center for New Americans is in Northampton.
ReplyDeleteGo down that list of usual suspects and inquire how many live in subsidized housing....
ReplyDeleteEnough said?
And those "usual suspects" are?
ReplyDeleteSilly me, what I find interesting is that 3 of the 15 are Amherst Bulletin Columnists (Alan Root, Jim Oldham and Bob Ackerman)
ReplyDeleteSo you just know that on the Friday before Town Meeting takes up this issue one of the three will have a Bully column supporting it.
Let's hope the Bully has the journalistic integrity to mention that their unpaid columnist also signed this original petition to get it on the warrant.
Between the "belabor the obvious" editorials, the centrist pablum of Amherst Center, the incomprehensible ramblings of Ackerman, and the utter predictability of Oldham, there's not much to read on the Bulletin's Commentary page these days.
ReplyDeleteLarry,
weren't you a regular columnist over there in days gone by?
Yeah, for 14 years (a paid one at that).
ReplyDeleteI resigned in 2004 when Editor in Chief Jim Foudy (now publisher) told my editor Nick Grabbe that I could not write another column about 'Vagina Monologues' at Amherst High School because I had become the "center of the storm" (not bad for one column in late December in the bucolic People’s Republic of Amherst).
And he was right. You were the center of the storm so your columns were self-serving advancements of your own agenda.
ReplyDeleteActually it was a Column singular.
ReplyDeleteAnd most (male) Columnists would give up their left testical to bring an issue into the national limelight.
I had made the mistake of posting on Masslive Amherst Forum that I was going to respond to Jere Hochman’s lame column supporting ‘VM’ and was going to “cut him to pieces.” Obviously Editor in Chief Foudy monitored the competition because in his email to my editor he called me LarryK (my old user name on Masslive)
Strangely enough, the 1999 demise of 'West Side Story' (where I organized a rally/protest on the town common that made International news) happened just days after a routine column and the news cycle on it (as heated as it was) had closed within the month, so I never did not get to publish a column.
And I'm proud to say I was the only Columnist in America to do a pro-flag column two weeks before 9/11.
That awful week EVERY columnist in America (and probably some abroad) did a pro flag column.
