Dim all the lights sweet darling

Since the People's Republic of Amherst is the center of the universe, I'm surprised the Earth Hour folks did not use an Eastern Standard Time zone for their worldwide hour of activism.

So tonight at 8:30 PM lights will go out in Town Hall to show solidarity and fight Global Warming. Unfortunately...Town Hall is closed tonight at 8:30 PM; so maybe we will bring in a Custodian (at time-and-a-half) around 6:00 PM to turn on all the lights and then shut them off at 8:30 PM and then back on for a moment at 9:30 PM and then back off till Monday morning.

  3. In addition to everything else, the truly assinine proposal to close Lincoln Avenue will create more pollution (from the detours and traffic congestion) in one day than all the electrical conservation will reduce in a year.

Of all the stupid things the town has done, this truly takes the cake.

  4. "ZIONISTS AND THE COMPANIES THEY OWN"

    Larry,

Why are you keeping this very offensive post on your blog?

    ReplyDelete
  5. First Larry why are you keeping that zionist post on your blog or not commenting on it.

And to Anonymous said... All those companies are owned by Jews?

How stupid are you...these are pubically owned companies which are somewhere in your 401K

    ReplyDelete
  6. You know, there is a case for keeping the offensive posts there -- instead of letting them fester in darkness, kick over the rocks and let everything out into the light of day.

Do I sometimes have concerns with some of the things that Israel does - of course. I don't like seeing little children all bloody and crying, no matter whose children they are.

But you see some of this stuff and you start realizing what is really going on below the surface and then you start seeing Israel in a different light. And you start seeing who is on the other side.

And if you want to argue that George Soros at least contributed to some of this, that is a defensible argument but to call him a Zionist is laughable.

  7. Maybe it's just an Irish thing but my mother taught me (and she was a public school teacher for 35 years):

"Stick and stones can break my bones but names will never hurt me."

    ReplyDelete
  8. an interesting comment coming from the blogger. I recall some time in the past he said something like "if you ever, ever, ever call my wife or daughter a naughty word beginning with C, I *will* get you.

    Sticks and stones, indeed.
(the interesting part of that threat was that nobody had called or even threatened to call his wife or daughter the objectionable word.

  10. This is not about stick and stones, because it's not aimed at you. This a cheap racist and anti-Semitic trick to co-opt legitimate blogs and forums with off-topic hate speech. And don’t think this isn’t hate speech. This isn’t a difference of opinion matter. This really offensive and by keeping it up you are unwittingly supporting it and also being used. I think you would react differently if you went on to a blog and someone had posted a really vile anti-Chinese post that was off-topic and racist.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lighten up nitwit.

It's called the First Amendment--and believe it or not it actually protects hate speech.

Last I looked Israelis were among the toughest warriors on this planet.

They don't need your bleeding heart, idiotic PC language police protection.

They have have the best (pound for pound, dollar for dollar,) Air Force in the world and a land based Defense Force second to none.

Oh yeah, and rumor has it they also have Nukes; and if some nitwit Middle East whackos catch them by surprise (highly unlikely) and they are about to fall, that mushroom cloud will ruin everybody's day.

    ReplyDelete
  12. First of all, I am not a nit wit.

Secondly, the post says "ZIONISTS AND THE COMPANIES THEY OWN CAUSED THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS." That is not some political statement about Israel. It is antisemitism.

Lastly, the post is not protected by the First Amendment. You have a blog and camn allow any posts or delete any post you want.

Newspapers, for example, are not required to print every letter that is mailed to them.

The First Amendment states that the government will not infringe on your right to speak, not that privately owned forums can't control the speech that takes place on them. Otherwise, you could demand that a church allow you to denounce them from their own pulpit.

  13. anon 3:48: Thank you
anon 7:41: Your points are of course correct. But remember the angry blogger and his blog exist to incite anger in others. It's really not worth it. He posts garbage to get people exercised, never apologizes for reporting errors, and has angry inciting criticism for nearly everybody other than himself. Most of all, there really are only a few people who follow this site... a few supporters out there, but most of us come here do for the same reason we read Dilbert. It's usually amusing, and it's free. So while I agree with you, and this antisemitic bs should be removed, I would back off. You won't win and you're feeding his ego.

Notice how my comment showing that he is internally inconsistent wasn't responded to? That is "sticks and bones will break my bones, but don't you dare call my wife or daughter the c-word, or I will get you."

  16. LARRY IS THE BLATHERING NIT WIT

    ReplyDelete
  17. I did respond. In my opinion, statements such as "ZIONISTS AND THE COMPANIES THEY OWN CAUSED THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS" are not simply some political attack on Israel. Such a statement is not about Israel. So, who is it about then? It's an attack on people that are Jewish. It's in the same manner as other anti-Semitic attacks that bigotedly blame Jews for the world's problems.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think you've reached a low point. People who raise legitimate points, and don't use even the least bit inflamatory language, get called blathering nitwits.

  19. From a prominent news Website:

"We welcome comments. Please keep them civil, short and to the point. Obscene, profane, abusive and off topic comments will be deleted. Repeat offenders will be blocked. Thanks for taking part — and abiding by these simple rules.

I guess they haven't heard of Larry's interpretation of the First Ammendment.

  23. Secondly, the post says "ZIONISTS AND THE COMPANIES THEY OWN CAUSED THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS." That is not some political statement about Israel. It is antisemitism.

It may or may not be antisemitism, but it quite clearly shows them to be the schmucks they are. Somehow, I think that is important.

Lastly, the post is not protected by the First Amendment.
But it IS protected by the underlying principles reflected by it. Including the belief that truth, being stronger than falsehood, will prevail in an open fight.

I say let the schmucks identify themselves and show their ignorance.

  24. "Hey Anon, nitwit, cowards:

Anytime you want to start up your own blog, feel freakin free.

I see, you want people to not only read your blog but they also have to agree with you. It's not enough that people who don't agree with you get called names but now you reveal that you wish they didn't visit your blog at all.

In other words, I want the world to listen to me, but I have no interest in listening to you.

Thank you for making it clear that you have no interest or respect for other people's opinions (unless of course they agree with you, since that is just your opinion regurgitated.)

This a romantic notion that is unfortunately untrue. It is the equivalent of handing a robber a gun with the theory that the honest people will prevail because good people shoot faster.

  26. So Anon 6:46 AM
You and the other nitwit want me to delete/censor a Comment, but I'm intolerant and have no respect for other people's opinions (most notably yours of course.) Hmmm…

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well, you did call me a nitwit, so that doesn't sound very tolerant. I didn't call you a name and even now I'm not going to do that.

Let me ask you, do you keep up any comment no matter how off-topic? I think not, since this very thread has a deleted comment at the top of it.

So, why are you keeping up this one about Zionism? It has nothing to do with the post you originally made. It's free speech. OK, so, the KKK can post stuff on your blog and you are fine with it?

I don't think I'm being intolerant to be offended by a post that would have been right at home as Nazi propaganda.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't delete Comments, or at least have not, unless they are Spam or as in the case at the top a double post.

And you are making all the same points I have made for years about the benefit of having a private group run the July 4'th Parade (the ability to keep out hate speech).

The guy is obviously a disturbed whacko (which in my book is worse than a Nitwit). Not worth getting all riled up over.

    ReplyDelete
  29. he only deleted the first one because it was a duplicate. he doesnt delete all the posts that criticise him, i think he is pretty consistant in allowing stuff to stay.

    ReplyDelete
  30. And you don't consider the offending post to be spam? It obviously was not written for your website. It's just another piece of spam that instead of telling you to mail your money to Nigeria is spreading hateful lies.

Coca-Cola is not a company owned by "Zionists."

    ReplyDelete
  31. As I just explained on Princess Stephanie's blog my problem occurred when somebody was too quick to answer the "Comment" with a (I believe) tongue in cheek remark.

Then you or some other Anon starting screaming about deletion, but in so doing referred back to the original whacko's Comment.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It is the equivalent of handing a robber a gun with the theory that the honest people will prevail because good people shoot faster.

No, it is like this: if we have an armed society, if EVERYONE has a gun, then the robber is going to have second thoughts about using his to rob someone because there is a damn good chance they might shoot back. And the number of people oppsed to robbery will always outnumber those inclined to rob, which means that the robber stands a damn good chance of getting killed. Hence he/she/it doesn't do armed robbery...
