Free at last, free at last; thank God almighty...

At a meeting a few years back when the DPW was defending the taxpayer cost of adding a fire alarm system to their ancient brick building one of the Finance Committee members joked that they don’t need an expensive system since Larry Kelley lives next door (and yeah, once you inhale smoke from a major structure fire up close and personal you NEVER forget it)

So I’ve been hired to protect the damn sand. And I’m authorized to enforce limits with a shuffle hook kick upside the head (aka Billy Blanks good night kick).

Come on folks, there’s no such thing as a free lunch! Only in Springfield! (And the rest of America)

  1. Gee. Larry, I hope you did not stay up all night for that "little" pile of sand, but living close has its' quirks. Have a great day.

    Until later................

  2. Isn't is amazing how people always want something for free? I was driving through Amherst and saw a guy, with the back of his station wagon open and his parking light flashing, parked next to a sand box, shoveling sand into a bucket. This was during the week when he could have headed down to the DPW to get sand from them.
    Nice, huh?

  3. Yeah, when Donna worked at Stanhome Products they had "free donuts" in the morning, and of course the ones who needed them the least took the most.

  4. On the other hand, I once was one of those parked next to the sand box with flashers going -- and the rest of the story is that at the time (don't know about now) the water would run across Mill Valley Road (where that kid got killed, but that wasn' the cause) and freeze.

And since I was going back down there (AGAIN) anyway, it seemed a whole lot easier all around for me to just take a couple 5 gallon pails of sand from the nearest sandbox than call the DPW, talk them into sending a truck, etc...

And cheaper to the town as well....

$12/ton seems high for sand when one can get crushed stone for $4/ton but even still, one does need to ask the rest of the story...

  5. Isn't that the point of the sand boxes? They're so you can get sand without going to the DPW. They're not for the trucks, they've already got their sand.

  6. the point of the boxes is for use at those locations it is usually at places people get stuck or that ice over alot. if you want it for your house pick it up at the dpw so they dont waste time refilling the boxes
