After the last Christmas tree is sold, the Amherst Pelham Boy Scouts always clean up after themselves at Kendrick Park. The same cannot be said for the out-of-town wheat growers. Well, at least we didn’t finance them with CPA funds.

ReplyDeleteWell if these folks tended to the other plots they planted around the Valley this spring with such fanfare they way they took care of this one, that may be the case.
ReplyDeleteWhat was this supposed to symbolize again? World peace? Saving the planet? Better nutrition? All these well-meaning pointless symbolic gestures kind of blur together after a while.
ReplyDeleteThese bakers (and obviously bakers have a vested interest in wheat) from our Sister Republic, Northampton, wanted to demonstrate that wheat is a viable crop for farmers in New England to raise (thus reducing transportation costs from the mid-west, thus saving the planet).
ReplyDeleteOf course New England farmers are well known for Yankee sensibility, so.....
Maybe they can turn it into a compost pile now. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find manure!
