I will try not to think of it until Monday (but blogging is 24/7, 7 days a week). Off the top of my head Hickory Ridge has over twice as many members, over twice as many rounds played and charges twice as much for a membership fee (because they are not government subsidized)
Yeah, I had four people thus far email me the link (why does everybody know I don't read the NY Times?).
Not a lot of breaking news (at least for me) as Sports Illustrated a couple years ago covered the same sad statistics/trend.
I emailed and snail mailed the S.I. cover story to the Finance Committee and, naturally, they interpreted it as good thing: when all the other Golf Courses belly up Cherry Hill will be the last man standing. Yikes!
Whose woods these are I think I know.
ReplyDeleteIs that the bend in the Mill River down near the Old Grist Mill?
No (but that one is on my list). About a half-mile down, in the middle of Hickory Ridge Golf Course.
ReplyDeleteOh! Dog leg left.
ReplyDeleteHow many members at Hickory Ridge? How many rounds played in a season? What is their membership fee, cost for a round, amenities, total revenue?
How many members at Cherry Hill... same questions.
Do you know if either of both use pesticides or chemical fertilizers known to cause run-off and water contamination? Where do the turtles nest?
Don't think about it until Monday.
Yikes!

Nice shot and some nice sunrise-sunset photos. NYTimes had a front-page article on golf a few days ago that might be of interest to you.
