And it's not like Amherst didn't contribute to the success of the production since I saw Amherst police officers there on the Notch every day directing traffic! It would be nice to see more collaboration like this...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5035949355013113578.post-83251634701224423202008-11-02T12:53:00.000-05:002008-11-02T12:53:00.000-05:00Hey Larry,College gives aid to Amherst by The Repu...Hey Larry,

College gives aid to Amherst

by The Republican Newsroom
Saturday November 01, 2008
By DIANE LEDERMAN

AMHERST - While the nation's economic decline caused Amherst College to delay the start of work at the Lord Jeffery Inn, an unexpected bounty from a movie filmed at the college has prompted it to donate that money to the town.

Earlier this fall, the crew filming "The Edge of Darkness," starring Mel Gibson, filmed scenes in Northampton and at a former Strategic Air Command bunker on the Holyoke Range now owned by the college. The bunker has been converted into an archive for the Five Colleges.

That compensation was $40,000, and Town Manager Laurence R. Shaffer said the college contacted the town about a month ago to let officials know they wanted to donate it to the town. "They just felt it was found revenue (and) it was appropriate" to give it to the town, Shaffer said.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
